The Ocean Beach Planning Board holds its monthly meeting this Wednesday, June 4th. It’s held at the OB Rec Center, 4726 Santa Monica Avenue at 6 pm sharp. The public is invited and all are welcome.
The big item on their agenda is an “update” on the Update – the OB Community Plan Update. And there is much news to share, as the San Diego Planning Commission has thrown down the gauntlet and wants to de-claw the Plan after 12 years of working with City staff, the City Attorney’s Office, and countless community meetings, workshops and town hall gatherings about the Plan.
There will definitely be an overview and presentation by the Board’s sub-committee on the Plan and City staff.
The other noteworthy item on the Board’s agenda is any appointments to the Board by applicants who have met the requirements. The Board has some vacancies and needs additional members. Due to vacancies from absences and illnesses, the Board has the obligation to fill its empty seats, but applicants still must meet some minimum requirements.

An important meeting – we need to hear feedback from the community on whether to continue protecting our small-scale character and maintaining this aspect in future development (i.e. do you want to see more 3 story buildings along the waterfront?).
I would encourage the community to attend this meeting as it pertains to the OB Community Plan and last weeks Planning Commission Hearing and their “recommendations.” It will be a great meeting to bring the community up-to speed of the issue at hand.
