Much to our astonishment, when we opened Sunday’s U-T op-ed section, “SD in Depth”, we found the OB Rag logo and excerpts from some of our readers’ comments plastered right there on the second page of the section.
The whole page was wrapped around the headline: “Both sides vocal on Mayor Filner Saga“, and there were quotes from readers at the LA Times, KPBS, the U-T, San Diego Rostra, and from the OB Rag.
The published comments were to our post entitled, “Mayor Filner: DO NOT RESIGN” that we had put up last Thursday, July 11. Seven commenters were quoted – five with a either a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude or a pro-Bob stance, and two who were not so supportive of the mayor.
In today’s silive.com a New York newspaper, an article on Eliot Spitzer and Anthony Weiner leading in the democratic primary race for comptroller and mayor of NYC.

Congrats to the OB Rag. When I line my birdcage with Papa Doug’s fish wrap, I will make sure that I cut out the OB Rag part so my birds don’t decorate your hallowed image with their leftovers.

I’ve been distracted again by federal politics and news stories. I’m sad that I’ve been taking for granted the prospect of finally having some good government in San Diego for maybe the first time since I moved here in ’89. I do support Bob Filner and am sad about this new attack and effort that I call the U-T–Manchester–Republican backdoor way back into the Mayor’s office and control of this city. Sorry but I just won’t pretend to believe San Diego cares this much about employee rights. I’m retired and feel sorry for workers who will do so here. This city’s employers are the worst and cheapest I’ve seen. Rights? Ask yourself how much they care about yours or your wife’s, girlfriends, really. These sudden outrageous complaints, too sensitive to have brought forward as one does, especially as a city worker with a union (do you have union protection?) that play so well into the hands of Filner’s opponent (DeMaio is over it but his backer?). Donna Frye? Will somebody please remind me of her real legacy here, what she’s championed that has actually worked? This activity smells fishier than hell to me, well not fishier than San Diego but fishier than hell.
Sexism, dumb mistake, sorry I’m old too! I just wrote about our employers who care so little about employee rights and I said “ask your wives and girlfriends”. What a dope I am but, hey, I’m almost 60, was speaking from own experiences, correction: “think about or ask your selves and friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, lovers, and family too, anybody who has suffered on the job sexual harassment” in the form of equal pay issues too here in San Diego. How did it come out? I’ll bet few who have complained kept their job AND got a satisfactory resolution. I never hear anything done to protect employee rights here in San Diego and this attention to these particular accusations (if real) at this volume . . . . ?
