San Diego City Co. district 2 newlori zapfAbout a week ago, San Diego City Councilmember Lorie Zapf filed her papers with the City Clerk to run for the District 2 seat – currently held by Kevin Faulconer, who is termed out.  District 2, of course, covers Ocean Beach, the Peninsula and new areas of Clairemont.

Zapf, a conservative Republican, currently represents District 6, as she lives in Bay Ho. But new district boundaries approved 2 years ago by the Redistricting Commission now place her residence in District 2.

Who else is running for District 2? The  San Diego Reader speculates that San Diego lifeguard Ed Harris and attorney Bryan Pease may also be candidates for the area.

Sgt. Ed Harris of the lifeguards was just today in the news announcing the rescue of a man off the Ocean Beach Pier.

Attorney and environmental activist Bryan Pease is a recent resident of Ocean Beach, having being a candidate for District 1 back in 2012.  Pease has been active in the campaign to protect the harbor seals in La Jolla.

Why not? What about diversity?

Great question Lester burnham? What about diversity in the party of grumpy old white men? Something I’m sure you identify with as youve chosen the moniker of the penultimate middle aged white male victim. And don’t try to tell me zapf isn’t just another grumpy old white man.

What about diversity indeed. Perhaps the repubs should consider it.

I believe Lorie Zapf has a vagina (like Donna Frye) which wouldn’t make her a grumpy old white man. And diversity is more than the color of one’s skin. Assuming people believe one way because of skin pigment is inherently racist right? I’m about diversity of thought.

No, I don’t think it’s inherently racist to posit that a party made up of predominantly older & middle aged wealthy white males is less diverse (in color or thought) than any party which is more inclusive and accepting of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. And I’m pretty offended that you would try to twist my words and joking nature about zapf dingbat to make it seem like I’m somehow racist? Get outta here with that crap.

Right from the Reader’s article:

“On May 8, Zapf filed papers with the City Clerk’s office to set up the Lorie Zapf for City Council 2014 campaign committee.”
