‘We have a winner!’ OB Rag Quotes Found in Ceiling of Brighton Comfort Station

Artist Shinpei Takeda adds some finishing touches to his art ceiling, a ceiling with quotes from OB Rag articles.

Yes, we do have a winner. Several weeks ago we ran a T-shirt contest for whoever could find quotes from the OB Rag in the ceiling of the new Brighton Avenue beach “comfort station” would win one of our T’s for posterity.

It took Joe Ewing – known locally for his web talents – to find the quotes. He told us that he took a couple of photos of key words and isolated the phrases then googled them. “OB Rag was #1 so from there on it was easy.”

Joe wins a black, extra-large.

The quotes – several of them – stemmed from articles about the homeless, about the shooting of Danny “the Walker” and about an unfortunate dog on Newport Avenue.

Thanks, Joe.

Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.
