CBS 8 Local San Diego News reports that Ocean Beach and the coast is in store for some major waves over the next few days.

Meteorologist Shawn Styles reported from OB tonight (Thursday) that big swells are forecast to roll ashore in San Diego in the next few days, and are expected to stick around through the end of the week, and produce waves up to 12 feet.

Stiles said that he visited the shore today and in the morning, it was flat. But by the afternoon waves were peaking at 4 to 6 feet, he reported.  He claimed that by Friday – tomorrow, the 6th, – the waves will have an occasional height of up to 8 feet.

An entire new system is coming after this one, with waves up to 12 feet Stiles said.  Waves will possibly break over the OB Pier come Friday, he said.

KPBS says: San Diego lifeguards closed the Ocean Beach pier early today due to dangerously high waves and riptides.

The high surf is expected to continue through Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

A high surf advisory was declared by the NWS and will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday, while a coastal flood advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday.

The pier was closed at 3:20 a.m., according to a San Diego lifeguard dispatcher. There were no other closures to report, he said.

Today, San Diegans can expect 8 to 10-foot surf, with sets up to 12 feet, the Weather Service advised. The agency forecast slightly smaller waves on Saturday — 6 to 8-foot surf with 10-foot sets.

The rip current potential today is high, according to the Weather Service.

Sorry folks but the wave heights are NOT the size the media says. Maybe some sets up to 6 to 8, but that’s it homies.

you must not have paddled out at the cliffs, blacks, anywhere in la jolla, or anywhere at all. Actually you must not have gone outside. We all know the local news hypes it up but friday at noon, there were 8+ sets from the pier to the jetty and much larger from osprey to garbage. Friends showed footage from windansea to swamis and Obvious 10- 12 foot with standouts around 14
