I realize that I am not a restaurant reviewer – although I always thought it would be fun to be one – and I also realize that this restaurant is not in the 92106/92107 zip code, but it is pretty darn close – 92110 – on Midway (3185 to be precise), but I was served one of the best meals I have had in years. The “PUNJAB RESTAURANT, Taste of the Himalayas” smelled divine as we entered the small restaurant for lunch. There were 3 of us; all women that had met when we were in a water aerobics class at the “Y”.
We were greeted by the manager, Sanjog Chaudhary, a delightful young man originally from Nepal. In fact, his parents still live in that country. He is working here with his uncle and the restaurant has been in business one short month. The family owns four restaurants in the San Francisco area and this is their first attempt in San Diego.
There is an eclectic menu – food from Nepal, India, Tibetan and more. The lunch menu is very reasonable – 6 items all $6.95, and it includes TWO entrees, served with rice, lentil soup, and naan bread. They also have vegan entrees. We all had something different and raved about what we were eating. One of the ladies – Judy – had been to Bali where she had drunk “mango lassi”. She couldn’t resist trying it here and she said it was every bit as good as it was in Bali. Joelle wanted to try the Nepalese hot tea made with milk, “Chiya”, and after tasting it said it was wonderful. It tasted like Chai tea, which, of course, it was.
The atmosphere was conducive to comfort; the furnishings reflected the countries origin. I can’t wait until I go back to sample the other items on the menu. If you like Himalayan food, give Punjab’s a try.

Let’s try it when next we get together Judi. It sounds good. There’s an Indian restaurant near me that I’ve tried and it was quite good as well.

Since I do not have an email address for you I hope you see this. Your new web-site is very well done. However, I am afraid that your description of where you are located is incorrect and you might lose some customers. You state that you are located in the heart of downtown San Diego. You are not in the heart of downtown San Diego. You are located in the Midway District. I, personally, do not eat downtown because of congestion; parking, etc. If I were to read your introduction I would never go there. I fear there are others with the same feeling. I think it should be corrected.
