Terriers is a show about two private investigators who are tenacious, just like the terrier dogs.
In the series Terriers, Michael Raymond-James plays Britt Pollack and Donal Logue plays Hank Dolworth, two men with questionable pasts who join together to form their own private investigation team. On August 3, 2010 the two gentlemen along with the producers discussed their new series with members of the Television Critics Association.
Filming in San Diego
The series will run 13 episodes with the hope that it will be picked up for another season. The location is set in San Diego, California, where the filming also took place.
Donal told the journalists, “We [Michael and I] ended up renting a house together in San Diego, so it was kind of on 24/7 the whole time. … It really helped the kind of endeavor we had.” By living together, the two formed a solid bond, which is something their characters need to get though their lives together.
“San Diego was fantastic, too, by the way,” Logue added. “And I think it was such a great idea these guys had to go down there, because there’s something about San Diego that is quite different than Los Angeles, and something specifically about Ocean Beach’s community that we shot in, that it’s still this kind of working-class enclave that’s right on the beach that really fought hard against having big, kind of corporate condo development, no-Starbucks-type stuff, and it really gave us this kind of foothold to create this universe in.” Ocean Beach is a small community just outside of downtown San Diego and is the heart of the series.
A Drama Series with Humor
For Logue, who has done comedy and drama, he said he is more comfortable in his current role which adds humor with drama. “I feel more comfortable in this milieu. I love doing comedy. I think our show is quite funny in a lot of ways, but I love not feeling this hydraulic pressure that you have to create this kind of comic moment within every scene. You can just play it as it is. This is kind of where I vibrated towards for a while. I don’t know where else it will go, but I feel actually quite blessed that I can actually balance between the two worlds – that I can do Grounded for Life and then do Zodiac – because I think a lot of really talented actors I know, they end up getting set in a certain category, and no one will ever buy that they can exist outside that category, even though you know full well that they can, but it’s just difficult for people to be able to cross those fences, so I feel pretty blessed that I’ve been able to.” He is not pigeonholed into one category and his happy to combine both drama with comedy.
As far as having a series on cable television, Logue commented, “I just personally feel like the best writing for actors exists in cable television.”
