Writer David Washburn at voiceofsandiego.org has been doing his homework when it comes to library cuts and City Council votes. He has posted two pieces on his blog about the ‘missing’ Councilmember votes. Councilmember Ben Hueso, absent last week during the critical vote on the Mayor’s proposed budget cuts, would have voted with the majority, to make it 7 to 1 against cutting libraries and rec centers, Hueso’s chief of staff told Washburn. Hueso’s Eight Council District was not facing any library cuts.
Plus the new, incoming City Councilmembers would have voted 3 to 1 to keep libraries open, according to Washburn. Sherri Lightner, Marti Emerald, and Todd Gloria would all have voted to keep the books off the chopping block, whereas Carl DeMaio would, have given them the guillotine.
