manchesterboycott.jpgSAN DIEGO – A broad based coalition of Gay and Lesbian Organizations and Labor will hold a demonstration and rally on Friday, July 18, 2008 in front of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel to officially kickoff a boycott of Doug Manchester’s San Diego Hotels.

Manchester, CEO of the Manchester Financial Group of San Diego contributed $125,000 to qualify an Initiative Constitutional Amendment for the November 4th ballot, which if it passes, will define marriage as only between a man and a woman.

“We feel that if Mr. Manchester and any other individuals give huge amounts of money to take away our freedom to marry, then the LGBT community, our families and our friends should fight back against these purveyors of hate,” said Fred Karger, Campaign Manager of the newly formed Californians Against Hate.

“We will wage a national campaign to disseminate the truth using new media to tell exactly who funded the qualification of the initiative and who is funding the campaign itself,” added Karger.

We will identify these individuals and companies on our web site: www.CaliforniansAgainstHate.com as soon as their names become available to us. We will broadcast the information all over the country to make sure that our friends and allies throughout the United States know the identity of everyone who has contributed vast sums of money to take away our rights.”

The March on Manchester was announced at a press conference last Thursday, in front of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel by a dozen LGBT, labor, civic and political leaders. These San Diego leaders are backing the Boycott and will be present on Friday.

“If our opponents are steadfast in their desire to take away our freedom to marry, then we will fight back. We do not want to spend our money at any business owned by supporters of this hateful initiative constitutional amendment that would then be used against us,” concluded Karger.

Interesting…I understand AM 1700 has a broadcast studio there, home of Stacy Taylor, perhaps the only progressive-minded local talking head. Wonder what he’ll have to say in his 3-6 time slot…
