If you walk down the south side of West Point Loma Blvd. between Abbott and Bacon Street you might notice a cute and charming new addition to the neighborhood that celebrates OB’s love for our four-legged residents.
With the words “Take a toy, leave a toy” written on the library door, fun artwork, and dog celebrating quotes, the Ocean Beach Dog Toy Library has been open since April 2026 and has quickly become wildly popular due to its location in a sweet spot between OB Dog Beach and OB’s many parks.
The Library, installed by Tracy Dezenzo (long-time community volunteer) and Bill Orvis (OB holiday tree Santa), celebrates OB’s vibrant dog-loving community and encourages sharing and reuse vs consumerism and waste. Instead of letting gently used or ignored tennis balls, squeaky toys, and other chewies wind up in the garbage, neighbors can now drop them off for other dogs to enjoy.
The Ocean Beach Dog Toy Library is entirely donation based and relies on the generosity of the dog loving community to stay stocked.

Neighbors looking to support the Library can:
- Drop off new or lightly used, dog toys directly in the library box 24 hours a day.
- Drop off a larger quantities of dog toys on the grey porch behind the Library (they will be washed and distributed over time into the library).
- Contact the Librarian by visiting either Facebook or Instagram at @obdogtoylibrary.
- Spread the word and share photos or videos of your pups enjoying the library or toys from the library and be sure to tag @obdogtoylibrary because we love to see happy tail wags.
- Note: “checking out” an item from Library is at your own risk. Pet owners are responsible for inspecting toys to ensure they are safe and appropriate for their specific dog’s size and chewing habits and neighbors are encouraged to only donate sturdy, gently used, and cleanable toys.

Thank you for sharing this. We all need a little good news and joy right now.
