On Sunday July 26, the OB Task Force on Homelessness announced the results of a survey their volunteers performed of folks suffering from homelessness earlier that day. And they counted 65 souls.
They reported:
Observational Survey update:
– new high of 65 souls counted on just 15 blocks of downtown OB on a Sunday morning as tourists and families start going to church and breakfast.
The Task Force report included this question: “Does anyone think that 65 people, sleeping rough in a 15 block area, is acceptable?”
That’s 4 people per block, for every block. This doesn’t happen in La Jolla, or on the block that Mayor Gloria lives on…and our question is why not here in OB too?
Shouldn’t our professionals on this email and others….help our community, to help these folks better?

Charities, churches and private individuals can step up. We can’t control alcohol and drug use. ACLU says no one can be forced treatment who doesn’t want it. Not a government problem.
If it’s not a government problem, is it a Christian problem? That’s not the law Pedro. Booze and drugs are not the main problem; lack of a house/ home is.
