A woman who stabbed two men in an Ocean Beach alley, pleaded guilty and will be sentenced to prison on February 17. Jana Nicole Halaska’s sentence will range from four to eight years. She is 29.
Halaska pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on Jan. 14 as her trial date approached. It all extends from an incident on April 13, 2025, when she stabbed the victims, Gabriel Millan and Christopher Abrahamsen in an alley at Bacon Street and Newport Avenue just after 1 a.m. Millan and Abrahamsen were seriously injured, were rushed to an emergency room at a hospital, where they remained for many days.
Halaska famously declared “that’s not how you treat a lady” before stabbing the two men.
Halaska’s attorney tried to resolve the case by entering her into a mental health diversion program, but Judge Chandra Reid denied the motion on Dec. 10, records show. and she remains in the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on $500,000 bail.
According to the Times of San Diego:
Both Millan and Abrahamsen were drinking and playing music in front of Hodad’s, when an intoxicated woman started acting aggressively toward them, according to court papers filed by the prosecutor.
Halaska wandered by and saw one man kick the intoxicated woman, who was screaming at him. That’s when Halaska yelled, “That’s not how you treat a lady!”
She pulled a knife and stabbed both men when they walked into an alley behind Hodad’s.
Both men were startled by the attack as neither one knew Halaska. In a statement by Millan, he said he is “scarred for life” and has anxiety over his safety, so much so that he has left Ocean Beach and moved to Oregon with his family. “When I was stabbed, I knew my time was short when I felt the blood leaving my body and was unsure if I would live or die until I woke after surgery,” said Millan.
An earlier Beacon article also added:
Milan was stabbed in the back, shoulder, and chest, and had a collapsed lung. Abrahamsen, 36, also suffered a collapsed lung and said he had damage to his diaphragm and heart in his GoFundMe request he filed seeking funds for his hospitalization.
A third man suffered injuries to his hands that same night and was interviewed by police. It turns out that the third man was with Halaska, but he didn’t realize he was injured by her when she was swinging a knife, according to court records.
Because the third man was with Halaska, she was not charged with injuring him. The third man claimed he was injured by someone else, records say. He showed up at the same hospital where the other two victims were treated.
Video surveillance cameras from Ocean Beach merchants showed the third man was with Halaska before the stabbing. Halaska’s images from surveillance cameras also led to her arrest on April 29 in Hillcrest.
