What in the hell is wrong with you
Republican Congressmen and Congresswomen?
How have you
come to losing your way
so dishonorably,
like a ship without a rudder
in foggy weather,
wandering aimlessly,
trapped in a web,
like helpless insects,
at the mercy
of a demented madman of a president
who has you, for one thing,
for instance,
funding a ballroom for him
when he doesn’t really appreciate music
and can’t dance a lick,
all such as this,
a betrayal of your penchant,
over time,
for balancing budgets.
And what’s with
your willingness
to be complicit with his
industrial policies
that bring terror
to the international market
along with the international economy
when you have historically
advocated for free trade?
Does it not bother you
that this tyrant
threatens
Greenland, a longtime ally,
spouting
“America First” jive,
and that he over and over again
whines and moans
about how the 2020 elections were rigged
as he sends the FBI
to Georgia
to seize ballots from that election
as a ploy to
steal votes in 2026?
Why do you not give a damn
about the wellbeing of
“We the People,”
the citizens of the nation?
Do you not feel our pain?
Hear our cries?
Is there awareness in you anywhere
that senses that we feel
that we’re drowning
in the tears that fall from our eyes
like stormy rain
falling from the sky,
that we’re marching and protesting every day,
fighting to restore some form of promise
and hope
in our lives?
Oh, you have to know
somewhere deep in your souls
that we are
trembling in your deafening silence
regarding innocent children being imprisoned
and the gangland-like coldblooded murders
in Minneapolis
of Renee Nichole Good
and Alex Pretti
who did absolutely nothing wrong,
nothing remotely out of line,
yet they were designated on your watch
as domestic terrorists
no less.
It’s maddening how you’ve betrayed
the nation,
how you’ve given
a deranged president
the ability
to establish an autocracy
before the country’s very eyes
when you have the power
to save our democracy
before the sun sets
tomorrow
by impeaching him
and locking his sorry ass up
in a penitentiary
and throwing the key to his cell
in the Potomac.
You have lost your way.
Drastically.
And we can’t possibly understand
how you, as traitors to the country,
can face your
family
and friends
and constituents.
Shame on you.
One and all.

Brother Ernie, your inspirational assessments of threats to democracy keeps me jumping up on the good foot to continue the struggle for social and economic justice.
Keep it going my Brother
Ernie,
I hear people say that it is a matter of what’s right or wrong or moral and immoral. True, but we have a Constitution! It contains enlightenment ideals such as the ‘consent of the governed’ etc. Republicans and Democrats swore to uphold the law of our land. ‘We are a nation of laws, not men’ or so we believed. We Americas thought we ended fascism but we see it did not die among some of us. Thank you for your words. We seek to understand this moment together.
