Hundreds of people were forced to flee a homeless shelter near downtown San Diego as floodwaters rushed through the front door just recently, leaving many with few belongings.
Officials evacuated Alpha Project’s Bridge Shelter, a massive gray tent near 16th Street and Newton Avenue on the edge of Barrio Logan, early New Year’s Day. About 325 men and women are now sleeping in the Municipal Gym in Balboa Park.
More than 2 inches of rain fell on San Diego County on New Year’s, breaking local records and causing multiple water rescues. The shelter was one of the first casualties. (for more, see CBS8)
Now Alpha Project is calling on San Diegans to donate items — and they’re asking people to deliver them to the Recital Hall in Balboa Park.
If you are able to help or would like more information on how to donate or drop off items, they will be accepting donations at The Recital Hall, directly across from the International Cottages, and is located at 2130 Pan American Plaza West Road San Diego, CA 92101.
Items can be delivered 7 days a week from 10AM to 6PM.
Please contact 619-542-1877 or email info@alphaproject.org for any questions.

Thank you, Frank for posting this incredibly important information. We all have many things we don’t need or our closets are bulging and to help someone right now is what we all must do. Thank you to the rag again and to Frank
And thank you Carole for reminding us about this particular need. I called Alpha and they said they’re doing this every day from 10 to 6 for a while. If you’re just dropping stuff off, you don’t need to find parking (but if you do, it’s got to be paid).
Frank,
Please remind everyone to please don’t, bring torn, stained, ripped, unwashed clothes, they are suffering enough, I went to Walmart and bought 50 $5/shirts, a dozen pair mens and womens jeans and washed and folded everything including 4 dozen unisex white socks, the hoodies i bought I did not feel needed washing. They told me they needed backpacks, but I did not buy any, because of the fear of them using them in stores to steal liquor.

Thank you for publishing this.. would never have thought of it otherwise. I have lots of stuff to donate and will do so today. Also sending this to friends to inform them too!
They also told me yesterday that they need blankets, towels and shoes.
Hoping to help more this week
