‘Hands Off!’ Time to Take to the Streets — Civic Center Plaza at City Hall — Saturday, April 5

Rallies in Encinitas and Oceanside

On Saturday, April 5th, San Diegans and Americans across the country are taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!

Here in San Diego, we’re rallying at the San Diego Civic Center Plaza — next to City Hall — at  12 noon. Location: 1200 Third Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

About this event

Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. San Diego is fighting back!

They’re taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now.

This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.

A core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

The Ocean Beach – Point Loma Democratic Club is mobilizing their members and plan to meet on the northwest corner of the parking lot at 301 B street, San Diego, 92101.

Register for the event here  (https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/event/766615/)

There will be separate events in Encinitas and Oceanside.

Encinitas Location: Time 11:00 — 12:30 pm, Tesla, 1302 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA 92024

Oceanside location: Time 9:30 – 11am PDT; North Coast Highway & Pier View Way, Oceanside, CA 92054

  1. No way. While you’re attacking Trump & Musk, the Globalists headed by Soros is the real danger. Sure, get together if you’re ok with fraud, theft, and abuse. You don’t have to look too far to see it. And, that goes for our “representatives” in Congress. They make about $170, 000 a year – but all come out multimillionaires. Insider trading, supporting “loans” to other countries that they receive kick backs from They’ve got it down to a science.

    1. Yup, you don’t have to look too far to see it.

Trump’s golf outings cost taxpayers nearly $30 million since his 2025 inauguration. Because he primarily golfs at his own resorts, the self-described billionaire also benefits personally.

But wait, here’s more. His Super Bowl jaunt (he left at the beginning of the 2nd half) cost taxpayers between $15-20 million. His ride around the track at the Daytona 500? That cost taxpayers a cool $11 million.

DHS budgeted up to $200 million to run anti-immigrant ads in the US and overseas that repeatedly thank Trump for closing the border. Homeland Security Secretary Noem said the ads were Trump’s idea. That doesn’t include the tens of millions of dollars Noem spends to fly around the country and to El Salvador cosplaying bad cop

Vance and his wife flew to Greenland for 3 hours, costing taxpayers tens of millions for him to threaten our ally and pose for photos.

Want more waste? Illegally firing tens of thousands of federal workers and being forced to rehire a significant portion with back pay ain’t cheap. Good luck getting social security payments, tax refunds or services on time – if at all.

Aside from buying himself a presidency for $100 million, Musk spent over $20 million in the WI election. Soros spent $2 million.

Finally, Trump just imposed the largest peacetime tax increase on the American people in history. Enjoy.

      1. Ann, you are absolutely correct. The only folks fleecing our government are the repugnant Republicans, with Dump heading the precession!

    2. The residing banana republic uses the word tariffs when addressing trade deficits. It seems crushing the common person and reducing the country to a third world status will eventually balance trade deficits. Between 2000 and 2019, approximately 5 million manufacturing jobs were lost in the United States due to outsourcing abroad. Which includes Dumpy’s first term. These aren’t countries cheating us, they’re multinational capitalist companies using countries to sell back to us at lower costs. They can’t just flip a light switch and manufacture here. Fraud, theft, and abuse is in charge of the country now and it’s your leader.

    3. I didn’t know George Soros had access to IRS records and other databanks. I did t know Soros was in charge of gutting federal agencies.
Go ahead and obsess about Soros while Trump and his buddy rape and pillage America.

    4. Are you really that dumb? What is it gonna take for you to wake up? The mad king is corrupt, reckless, and incompetent. He is a mad king. We are less safe, weaker, and considered unreliable in the world. The dollar is not worth less and could end up not being the world denomination. Meanwhile, Trump sinks our economy and goes to play golf and bc he thinks his golf tournament with the Saudis is more important than being there when four soldiers bodies were returned. He was too busy at hjs golf course since yesterday. I guess it makes sense why he doesn’t care about how the national security team put out confidential info putting those pilots lives in danger. Did Soros ever fire federal employees and most of which was illegal? Soros never stood with a cheesehead hat in Wisconsin handing out million dollar checks. Trump and hjs grifters in hjs cabinet are sucking the country dry. They are turning us into an oligarchy no different than Hungary or a Russia. They are trashing our freedom, liberty and democracy. Yet you think this is all okay. Seems to me that you are disrespecting our constitution and rule of law and should move to a country that better suits your needs then instead of screwing up our country.

  2. Fun Facts:

The border wall expansion in San Diego was completed in 2019. Following the expansion of the border wall near San Diego, drowning deaths in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego rose sharply, with 33 deaths reported from 2020 to 2023.

    Other Drownings:
A 30% increase in drownings was also observed in irrigation canals along the border after the wall expansion.

    Other Deaths:
The study also found a fivefold jump in traumatic injuries following border wall expansion in San Diego.

What a great Christian country we are, huh?

  3. RESIST REJECT REMOVE REFUSE EJECT **TRUMP / MUSK** REGIME

TRUMP + HIS ENTIRE CLAN OF DOMESTIC TERRORISTS MUST BE REMOVED FROM RULE

  4. Parking will probably be a PITA. Does the Blue Line Trolley stop near Civic Center Plaza on Saturdays? Make Trump even more pissed off. Take public transportation. ?

    1. Sure it does. I’ll be taking the trolley to downtown, which makes a stop right in front of City Hall.

  5. Other “Hands Off!” rallies set to take place throughout the county on Saturday include:

Borrego Springs, at Christmas Circle Community Park, starting at 10 a.m.
Carlsbad, at Tamarack Beach, Carlsbad Boulevard and Pine Avenue, starting at 10 a.m.
    Encinitas, at Encinitas Boulevard and El Camino, starting at 11 a.m.;
Oceanside, at North Coast Highway and Pier View Way, starting at 9:30 a.m.; and
Rancho Bernardo, outside the Rancho Bernardo Town Center at 16861 Bernardo Center Drive, starting at 12:30 p.m.

    1. I was tickled to see Borrego Springs listed among the SD County locations. Out of curiosity, I did a search and learned that about 300 turned out. That’s a lot for a small place like Borrego Springs.

I attended downtown – it was a fabulous experience made even better by a friend’s wife who dropped us off about noon.

Here’s a link for a whole series of signs from around the country. Some are side-splitting funny. https://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/hands-off-signs

      1. Judy, thanks for the Borrego Springs update; that is a lot of people – but there’s also a lot of retired folks out there. (East Co Mag was the only source I saw)

        1. Retired (like me) but at least not Trump supporters. I would have thought many residents out there, even the seasonal residents or visitors, would have been leaning more conservative.

  6. Actually, no, it is god for the environment,

In fact, here are 10 Reasons Why Electric Cars Are Bad for the Environment

    1. Battery Production Causes Pollution

Electric car batteries require rare metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel. Mining these materials damages the land, pollutes water sources, and harms wildlife. The process also releases a lot of carbon emissions, making it harmful to the environment.

    2. Electricity is Not Always Clean

Most electric cars run on electricity, but where does that electricity come from? In many countries, power plants still burn coal or natural gas to produce electricity. This means that charging electric cars can still contribute to air pollution and global warming.

    3. Battery Disposal is a Big Problem

Electric car batteries do not last forever. Once they stop working, they must be disposed of properly. However, recycling these batteries is difficult and expensive. If not handled correctly, toxic chemicals from old batteries can leak into the environment and harm people and animals.

    4. High Energy Consumption in Manufacturing

The process of making electric cars uses a lot of energy. Factories that build these vehicles consume large amounts of electricity and raw materials. The energy used in manufacturing electric cars often comes from non-renewable sources, increasing their overall carbon footprint.

    5. Limited Battery Life Leads to More Waste

Electric car batteries have a limited lifespan. Once they stop working efficiently, they need to be replaced. This creates more electronic waste, which adds to environmental problems. Proper disposal and recycling methods are not always available or effective.

    6. More Demand for Mining Resources

Since electric cars need rare metals for their batteries, the demand for mining is increasing. More mining leads to deforestation, destruction of ecosystems, and pollution of rivers and lakes. This harms both nature and communities living near mining sites.

    7. Increased Use of Toxic Chemicals

The production of electric car batteries involves the use of harmful chemicals. These chemicals can leak into the environment during mining, manufacturing, or battery disposal. They can pollute the air, soil, and water, making them dangerous to both humans and wildlife.

    8. Charging Stations Depend on Fossil Fuels

While electric cars do not use gasoline, the charging stations that power them often rely on fossil fuels. This means that even though you are not burning fuel directly, the electricity you use still contributes to pollution and global warming.

    9. Tire and Brake Pollution

Just like gasoline cars, electric cars also produce pollution from their tires and brakes. As tires wear down, they release tiny plastic particles into the environment. Brake dust also adds to air pollution. These forms of pollution are often overlooked but still harm the planet.

    10. Electric Cars are Not Fully Sustainable Yet

The technology for electric cars is still developing. While they may become more eco-friendly in the future, current models still have many environmental drawbacks. Until we find better ways to produce, charge, and recycle them, electric cars will continue to harm the environment in various ways.
