1,000 Plus Protests Against Trump Policies Set for Saturday, April 5 Across America — 117 Planned for California Alone

More than 1,000 protests against the policies of President Donald Trump are set for Saturday, April 5th across the country, with 117 planned in California alone. And they’re being sponsored and planned by a number of brand new nation-wide groups, like “Hands Off” and “50501,” as well as by a coalition of dozens of civil rights, environmental, education, social justice and labor groups.

There’s one for San Diego, of course, as well as in Oceanside and Encinitas within the county.

The PR guy for 50501 So Cal ( which stands for “50 protests in 50 states, one movement”) is Hunter Dunn, who said:

“We oppose executive overreach, including pardon abuse, the institution of Project 2025 policies, and mass deportations by ICE. We also oppose the use of the unitary executive theory to justify ignoring the court system.”

Rallies in downtown Los Angeles and Sacramento are expected to draw huge crowds for this national day of action. Dunn argued large-scale protests over a sustained period will slow down the Trump administration’s priorities and motivate people to make their voices heard at polls going forward.

Some of the groups involved in the protests include the Women’s March, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Indivisible, MoveOn.org, Human Rights Campaign, the AFL-CIO and the League of Conservation Voters.

Here are a couple of statements by the main groups.

Hands Off

On April 5, national and local organizations are coming together across the country to organize for Hands Off!, a national mass activation in defiance of the Trump-Musk billionaire takeover and the Republican assault on our freedoms and our communities. Hands Off! is an all-in moment for the pro-democracy, pro-worker movement—a demand, a warning, and a rallying cry that responds to the primary reasons for our mobilization:

Trump and Musk are attempting an illegal power grab is a crisis we must stop.

Trump, Musk, and congressional Republicans are gutting services, raising prices, and racing towards slashing Medicaid, Social Security, and more.

Trump, Musk, and congressional Republicans are on this path of destruction for the benefit of their billionaire allies.

Whether you are mobilized by the attacks on our democracy, the slashing of jobs, the invasion of privacy, or the assault on our services— this moment is for you. We are setting out to build a massive, visible, national rejection of this crisis. On April 5, we will host events across the country, in major cities and small towns in every state. Our goal is to show that the people—the majority—are taking action to stop the corruption and power grab.

why we’re mobilizing on April 5th

  • We are facing a national crisis. Since his inauguration, Donald Trump has launched an unprecedented power grab—driving up prices, slashing funding for essential programs, and creating instability at every turn. Enabled by Elon Musk and Republicans in Congress, his corrupt agenda is making life harder for everyday Americans while eroding our democracy. We can’t afford to wait any longer to fight back
  • They think everything belongs to them. Trump and his allies are rapidly stripping America for parts and selling us out—and now Congress is trying to do the same by slashing Medicaid, Social Security, cancer research funding, and more. Why? To give more tax cuts to billionaires.
  • But the services and jobs they’re slashing aren’t theirs—they’re ours. Our communities are paying the price while the Trumps and Musks of the world cash in. It’s not just about money—it’s about power. his administration is targeting everybody who isn’t part of the 1%—veterans, kids, seniors, farmers, immigrants, transgender people, and political opponents. All to consolidate power and reward their allies.
  • The lawlessness, cruelty, and corruption has gone too far. On April 5, we unite to say: Hands Off!
  • Whether you’re outraged by skyrocketing healthcare costs, job cuts, attacks on privacy, or the gutting of essential services—this moment is for you. Whether you’ve been in the fight for years or you’re just fed up and ready to take action—this moment is for you.
  • We need to build a massive, visible, national rejection of this crisis. On April 5, we will host events across the country, in major cities and small towns in every state. Our goal is to show that the people—the majority—are taking action to stop the corruption and power grab.
  • The power is in your hands. Join us. If there’s a mobilization in your area, sign up to attend. If not, use this toolkit to host your own in your area.

Our Demands
We demand an end to the billionaire takeover and rampant corruption of the Trump administration.
We demand an end to slashing federal funds for Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs working people rely on.
We demand an end to the attacks on immigrants, trans people, and other communities.

  1. You know, while I agree with most of the Values and commitments stated in this article, I could not help notice the irony as well.

If Democrats truly valued diversity and inclusion, and were in fact committed to conflict resolution, they would interacted with MAGA supporters and listened to their own constituents. Both of whom have been saying for years that the Democratic party has moved away from common sense, moved away from fighting for the common man, no longer represented the values of the majority of the people in the party, etc.

No, Democrats abdicated their responsibility and in doing so relegated America to the tumult that we are experiencing now.

I don’t blame Republicans for this current mess, I blame Democrats! They should have won this last election in a cake walk, but did not because they refused to listen to the majority voice in their own party.

    1. These are not being organized by the Democratic Party. Please don’t come up with reasons not to support these actions, given your history of comments here.

      1. Frank, not certain what you mean by my “history of comments here”, however, I was simply pointing out that Democrats shoulder much of the burden as to why we are in this mess in the first place. If you don’t agree, well, that is your prerogative.

        1. Didn’t mean much, except that your comments here have been fairly consistent with the views of the Rag. Yes, many of us are angered by what the Dems are and are not doing — yet, during the election, one party was inept and the other was spouting fascism.

          1. Frank, understood. For the record, I am against both ineptness as well as fascism. Unfortunately in this case, ineptness by one party has lead us to the fascism being demonstrated by the other party.

  2. We’re way beyond caviling about blame at this point — the blame is nonpartisan and goes back for years and years and years. People need to show up on Saturday, including Ironic John. Showing up matters.
Trump is shredding hallowed constitutional norms, cratering the economy and considering joining Israel’s criminal prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a war against Iran which could open the world’s nuclear Pandora’s box, again.

    1. Frances, everything you said is accurate. Also, everything I said in my initial comment was accurate, including the irony part. When Democrats return to fighting for the values of the average person, then, and ONLY THEN, can they expect to prevail in elections. Until then, no pretest is going to bring about the fall of the Dump administration. Only by winning elections can we hope to repair any of the damage this buffoon has done.

  3. President Dumbass has whittled his support back down to just his cult base now. He has plummeted that much in less than 90 days with an increasing trajectory downward. He is not going to recover. He needs to be kicked , and hard , until he is gone.
