One Lone Democrat, Al Green, Got Up in Trump’s Face as He Told Lies and Claimed a Mandate; They All Should Have Done It

Everyone of the Democrats should have gotten up and walked out with Al Green when he was escorted out of the Chambers.

They should not have worried about decorum as the Constitution is being shredded. Shame on 10 of the Democrats to vote to censure Green with all the Republicans.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

    1. Yes, Al Green did the right thing. A man with a spine. He was the only one in that entire chamber. This administration is dismantling global democracy at this very moment. Mass firings of civil servants, rampant closings of government agencies, aligning with Putin and insulting our allies….wake up!!! He is paying Putin and Musk back for their loans to escape prison AT OUR EXPENSE

  1. Yea!!!!
Wish I could have been there cause I would have stood up too and screamed ” DOWN WITH THE HYPOCRISIES up with LOVABLE TRUTHS FOREVER”.

  2. Basically I am willing to ditch the Democratic Party if they do not strip the Democratic members who voted to sanction him of all support from the Democratic Party. This is not just a bunch of well intentioned people having a civil discussion about politics–it is a COUP! Everything the Republicans say is a lie and everything they accuse the Democrats of doing is something they are doing. Recognize that or lose our country and party. The Democrats are carrying a pea shooter to a gun fight. It’s time to fight.

    1. I have already given up on the Democratic party. They abandoned me a long time ago, and never expressed a desire to reconcile. I will not support a party that does not support me!

  3. While I agree with the sentiments expressed by others comments, I can not help but to think how helpless we truly are in this post constitutional America.

What in fact can be done? Simply making noise and civil disobedience do not appear to be moving the needle. I wonder what, if anything, will?

  4. So he was censured. Can we please go back and do the same THING to TrailerTrash from Georgia who kept loudly yelling out LIAR LIAR during Biden’s last State of the Union? I mean, fair’s fair, yes?

Mary Trump is SO spot-on when she makes her points, isn’t she? She really knows her uncle and absolutely picks her apart. The learned psychologist really comes out in her here, and she just NAILS Trump at 16:43 to 19:00.

Well, the entire time but especially starting at 16:43:

Trump makes FATAL MISTAKE in DISASTROUS Address

It’s amazing how useless the Dems are acting, even when they are personally insulted to their face like Pocahontas clapping on camera…

  5. This is a cut that came today along with the latest Tom Tomorrow cartoon. I’m a supporter so I get them before they go public. Dan Perkins the cartoonist usually posts explanations with his cartoons, and I thought it should go here on the RAG. Apologies to Dan for posting his words (if necessary).

“As you probably heard, Al Green was ejected for heckling Trump when the latter claimed his victory by a slim plurality constituted a mandate. The rest of the Democratic opposition that evening largely involved holding up little paddle signs with messages like “Musk steals.” Someone on Bluesky said it looked like they were at a silent auction, bidding on fascism. Green’s expulsion aside, even the remaining small gestures of protest were too much for party leaders. Axios reports, “House Democratic leadership is ‘very unhappy’ with those who went beyond traditional protest tactics, such as outfit coordination and refusal to clap during Trump’s speech to Congress.” Sorry, the refusal to clap for the wannabe dictator was a bridge too far for the leaders of the alleged opposition? God, we are so screwed.

With a few exceptions, Democratic opposition hasn’t amounted to much. I understand that they have no legislative power, but you shouldn’t confuse legislative power for political power or the power of moral persuasion. Assuming we survive the two years ahead, and assuming that free and fair elections are still possible by then (both very large assumptions, I acknowledge), Democrats are going to need to have made the case, loudly, persuasively, and constantly, that the Trump/Musk administration needs to be reigned in. They need to be out in front of every camera, highlighting the stories of normal people impacted by Musk’s assault on government, people being hurt as Trump blithely tanks the economy. None of it is guaranteed to work, but not doing anything is absolutely guaranteed *not* to work. (You know the old Simpsons line, “I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas.”) The only alternative is to just lay down and die, and I don’t see that as a compelling argument to voters. But instead, we have a Democratic party with ten members who voted to join their Republican colleagues in censuring Al Green. That really ain’t it, folks. Nor is Gavin Newsom premiering his new podcast with special guest … Charlie Kirk, and agreeing with him that trans people should be thrown under the bus. I know a lot of people roll their eyes at the earnestness of Hamilton these days, but nonetheless there’s a line that comes immediately to mind: if you stand for nothing, what will you fall for?”
