May 4th Saturday 10 am May meeting – Meet the Olivers Event by San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention Mission Valley address provided when signed up. Join us to hear from Manny and Patricia Oliver, founders of Change the Ref whose mission is “Shifting America’s social response to gun violence, by uniting creativity, activism, disruption, and education.” The Olivers’ son Joaquin, nicknamed Guac, died in the Parkland shooting in 2018 and his parents have become two of the most prominent activists in the gun-violence prevention movement. Over the last year, Manny has delivered his one-man show, “Guac”, in theaters around the country, and on the first weekend in August he will be bringing it to San Diego. May 5th Sunday 11 am – 3 pm 10th Annual Lung Force Walk at Liberty Station. Recommended by the Electrical Vehicle Association of San Diego Join us as we help with this event. In addition to the fundraising walk, there will be a festival with interactive booths, food trucks, and a beer garden. May 11th Saturday  9 am – 12 pm Ocean Beach Cleanup – River Days: Surfrider x San Diego Coastkeeper invite you to a cleanup at OB beach and estuary in support of San Diego River Park Foundation’s River Days! You’ll start your morning by signing in and gearing up with cleanup supplies at the Surfrider Tent. We will have supplies on hand, but please bring your reusable cleanup supplies, if you have them, as our limited supplies. This is a zero-waste event. Please bring your water in a reusable container, as single-use bottles will not be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and sun protection. May 11th Saturday  and May 28th Tuesday 9 am – 11 am Miramar Landfill Bus Tours  Event by I Love a Clean San Diego and City of San Diego Environmental Services Department Parking and Pickup/Dropoff Location (carpooling highly encouraged): Metro Biosolids Center, 5240 Convoy St, San Diego 92111 This two (2) hour bus tour will give you a peek behind-the-scenes to find out what really happens when you dispose of waste and clear up the myth of throwing something “away”. This event is available for City of San Diego residents ONLY. As a safety precaution, long pants and close-toed shoes are REQUIRED. A signed waiver will be required at the start of the tour. This tour is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. May 11th Saturday 10:45 – 12:45 Protest @ Sea World San Diego – Empty the Tanks  Event by Ellen Ericksen It’s time to go back. On May 11, 2024, protests and educational events will once again be held all over the world in front of marine parks and aquariums. If a park is exploiting marine mammals for entertainment and profit then we want people out front creating noise and awareness. The only way to see an end to this abuse is to get the general public to stop buying tickets. We need your voice, your posters, and your dedication to seeing an end to the marine mammal captivity industry. Information and education is vital – our signs tell the stories and we will have flyers to hand out. Please feel free to make your own posters. Please leave companion animals at home. May 17th Friday 8:45 am – 12 pm Kids Ocean Day 2024 – Event Support; Are you interested in environmental education and want to help ILACSD make a difference? Learn about Kids Ocean Day and sign up to volunteer! We are looking for amazing volunteers to support a field trip for nearly 1,000 students at Mission Beach, featuring a cleanup and creation of an aerial art image on the beach. No prior experience needed, but you must watch the recording to be able to participate. All volunteers must be 18+ to support the event and will need to pass a background check provided by ILACSD, free of charge. I don’t have a dog in this fight but these folk’s appeal would be broader if they were asking for a ceasefire on all civilians and not just civilians on one side of the conflict.

Just sayin.
