Roll up For Cannabis Equity – A monthly column

Saturday is 420. I love a good party tip and the all-things-cannabis EventHi.io platform is a great one. It’s a one-stop for cannabis events nation-wide so you can search for your cannabis community wherever you are in the US. Except not Boise, don’t expect to find any real canna-culture on display in places like Boise. Still, the site has a way to make clear the event is a non-consumption affair if cannabis-free Boise did want to get involved.
EventHi was born out of necessity. When folks tried to use that other platform, Eventbrite to sell cannabis event tickets Eventbrite had thoughts. Being a total buzz-kill, they deleted many weed-related events from the platform and they became a huge nuisance. So a talented San Diego couple with extraordinary skills founded EventHi, a place where there are no party fouls and they will never ruin your ganja gala.
I decided to tour EventHi.io looking for local 420 events and give an overview of what I found for you.
First, full disclosure: 420 is my birthday and the organization I co-chair is co-hosting an event. Our elegant affair will premiere a short documentary film featuring local cannabis activists and a great narration of the Roll Up for Equity campaign. RUE is the namesake of this OB Rag column and a years long public awareness effort to move politicians to loosen the zoning restrictions on cannabis outlets.
We need more cannabis licenses to cover the inner city, tourist zones and bus routes. We are also demanding priority permits for persons formerly incarcerated for weed.
This event is one of the two EventHi listings in San Diego and you can get tickets here. You won’t want to miss it. It’s from 7PM to 9PM.
The other event listed is a Skate Sesh. It HAS SINCE BEEN CANCELLED. All tickets will be refunded.

I am certain there are other events. Likely all retail outlets will be throwing some kind of celebration. I just covered EventHi listings to showcase the cool platform. If you look at advertising you’ll find lots of specials and you should hit them all! But be on time to the Roll up for Equity event so you don’t miss out.
420, while once just a wink, is now becoming a full-on holiday, approaching St. Pat’s status and maybe even Valentine’s Day. I think most of us have settled on its origins coming from some youngsters meeting after class at 4:20 to get high. Now, snack food commercials are popping up with innuendo about the munchies and I’m pretty sure they turned the county building green last year.
In 2025 Easter falls on 420. I’m hoping nobody gets blamed by the Christian-right for that mere coincidence. But, at least there will be chocolate!
Four more days until blunt-lighting time, right? Not so fast!

And remember that Federal law can be enforced in EVERY state no matter what the state has decided (screw state’s rights, that was decided in the Civil War). Whenever our owners decide to, you can be arrested and imprisoned with zero defense because having any at all breaks Federal Law.
That’s reality but nobody really seems to care anymore except all it would take is one president that really hates it and everyone who uses it. Sure would raise the stock value of privatized prisons, cops would love it as would DA’s and judges and bail bondsmen etc etc.
Rule of thumb is people in power will do anything to not lose that power, and after all, governments are just people. I’m pretty surprised that this has gone this far! Will the US take the next step?
So I’m germinating seeds, 5 strains, right now for the medical garden this season in the hopes that we won’t have a totalitarian come to power who fits that model. Happy 4/20, folks!

At 10am, after feeding the dogs and the cat, I fired up a 3-sativa mix of Blue Dream, G-Force, and the ‘unknown’ Sativa somebody gave me a seed and it grew).
All picked from large glass pickle jars. Rolled them into a big fat joint (which I rarely do) to go along with my morning tea (a blueberry/green tea). Haven’t lost that skill yet though it is kind of lumpy. I’m a bubbler guy…
Then went outside to sit on the steps in the sun this last hour. Out of the wind the rays are incredibly warm by the way, but it’s only 53’F on the thermometer in the shade of the porch. Windchill, even in the sun, requires a coat still this morning. My steps are not out of the wind!
Another bright sunny blue-sky day here in the mountains beneath Canada. The recently adopted huskydog’s water pan outside was again sealed with a 1/2″ thick ice layer that she was pawing at. Popped out like a Frisbee.
Been doing that this week, below freezing the last four nights, but after the 81’F temps of last Sunday, the chill feels good. It went too hot too fast already this year. Expected high of 63’F today but sit out of the wind and it’s much warmer!
Music is rocking downstairs, 350w system with 325w double-bass speakers hanging under the landing and an appropriate Jefferson Airplane cassette tape playing to start off the day. Of course, a period piece of music!
Then maybe an old Peter Tosh vinyl record. Then a Marley cd. Going to be a music day obviously.
I vow to do absolutely no work about this property today whatsoever other than rubbing the ears of the co-species I live with and fixing myself eats.
Every once in a while you just have to…stop ‘doing,’ ya know? I hope at least some of the RAG people get to take the time to not do on this weird not-legal holiday!
