Apparently, a domestic argument in the parking lot of the Ocean Beach Pier Wednesday night devolved into the 22-year old man running over the 20-year old woman and the guy getting shot. Both are expected to recover.

According to police, the two got into an argument with the ex-boyfriend trying to mediate around 9 pm. SDPD Officer John Buttle told NBC7:

“The 22-year-old male got into his girlfriend’s car, put it in reverse and ran over his girlfriend. Shortly after two gunshots were heard.”

The boyfriend — now with a gunshot wound to the collarbone —  drove to the 2100 block of Bacon Street to the 7-11 parking lot where police were notified of a shooting victim. There were also two bullet holes in the car.

Police responded to both locations. No gun was located and the former boyfriend has not been found. Both victims were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. SDPD detectives are investigating the incident and are trying to determine who shot the 22-year-old. No other details were immediately available.

Anyone with information related to the above incident(s) is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477

  1. Walked by after the market on our way home and it was more wild than I’ve seen in a while. I said to my wife it looked like a powder keg ready to blow. They had a full on punk band with amps set up and kids running around the street blocking cars. 10min after we got home we heard the helicopter. When will the city wake up and do something about the Wednesday mayhem?

I’m all for having fun, playing your little bongos, walking your tightropes and cartwheeling about. But because there are zero rules, bad actors move in, ruin it for the others, and now people are literally getting shot in the neck out there. Why do we continue to put up with this nonsense?

    1. Wowzer! Sounds like the situation with the Marshmallow Wars — although weekly. Maybe the OBTC could step in and end this mockery of ‘high tides’ and ‘good vibes.’

      1. If you haven’t been to the market recently you may want to go by and check it out for yourself, and be sure to stick around until the evening when the various bands and drummers start up.

    2. I love OB. It’s not my home now, nor likely ever again, but those little bongos, tightropes and cartwheeling are the only things keeping it special. The article posted years ago about the bead shop closing struck a nerve in me. I drove by that bead shop so many times. Never had a reason to go, but its closing showed me just knowing it existed made me feel like I lived somewhere special. Maybe I could add to the community as well and not just consume from it. Showed me the impact you have on a community should not be monetary alone.

The desperation is a constant where the highway ends and the dogs run free and it gets worse as you get to the bridge. One night living near Abbott and Saratoga, I walked past a group of people playing music with no bass player. Asked to play with them and we jammed all night right there on the grass. The “full on punk band” could have been us that night, except we played blues and funk instead.

So I’ve been out of the community for 5 years but the exact same “problems” persist as I read the rag. Always a handful of seriously desperate people hitting the end of the highway and running out of road and rope and a bunch of people with complaints about how the city should do more.

You cannot have faith. It’s something you let go. To have faith that this “problem” just needs a pragmatic solution will perpetually frustrate you. Unfortunately, the only thing to do is to let go of any control and just contribute positively to the community the best you can. What results is Ocean Beach.

    1. Is that nice Mexican couple still selling little baskets of tomatoes, onions and jalapenos? How about the guy selling wooden sailboats? I still have a big sailboat he sold me and a wooden box. He told me to spend more time with my ailing father because he wished he had with his. I did.

  2. Reader alert!: The official story has changed, now:
It was the ex-boyfriend who was shot and wounded in the collarbone, not the boyfriend. “About 9 p.m., the couple argued, and the ex-boyfriend tried to mediate, said Officer John Buttle. “The man got into his girlfriend’s car, put it in reverse and ran over his girlfriend,” Buttle said. “Shortly after two gunshots were heard.” The ex-boyfriend drove to Bacon Street and Brighton Avenue, where police were notified of a shooting victim, the officer said. The man had a gunshot wound to the collarbone, and two bullet holes were found ….”
