The People’s House Impeaches the 45th President

In only the third time in US history, the House of Representatives – the People’s House – impeached a president, this time the 45th president, Mr. Donald Trump. In a historic vote, the House impeached Trump on two counts, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Articles now go to the Senate for a trial.

Article one, abuse of power, was passed by 230 to 197, with only 1 Democrat voting “nay” while one member voting present (presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, didn’t vote for or against the articles of impeachment,  she voted “present,” a tactic that is typically used only by members who can’t vote on a measure for fear of district voters’ wrath, however she represents a deep blue district).

Article two, obstruction of Congress, passed by 229 to 198 with Gabbard again voting present, and only 2 Dems voting “nay”.

Pretty much all the “frontline” Democrats and all the new freshmen voted for impeachment.

Trump was impeached on two specific charges: that he abused his power by freezing U.S. foreign aid to Ukraine in order to pressure Ukraine’s president into launching investigations into Trump’s domestic political opponents in an attempt to cheat in the 2020 election. Trump, as the article states, “demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law.”

The second article charges Trump with obstruction of of Congress for refusing House Committee requests to allow top level staffers at the White House testify and for refusing to comply with any of the lawfully issued subpoenas they received from the House Intelligence Committee. CNBC

Gabbard’s ‘present’ vote DOES make sense if she doesn’t want to upset Putin. Think about it.

I did. What a [blankety-blank!] – and no, I wasn’t going to use any gender-related noun.

Yeah, wtf with Gabbord? Made no sense at all; her vote, either way, would not have been a tie-breaker, and she has now put herself in a somewhat “suspect” category by sitting on the fence. Apparently, her position was that she was in favor of censorship but not impeachment. So she should have voted no. The vote was not about censorship, it was about impeachment.
And she has chosen not to attend tonight’s debate, apparently “for a number of [undisclosed] reasons”… time for her to go home.

Remember the photo of Jill Stein sitting at the table with Putin and Mike Flynn? Well, Stein was one of Vlad’s tools in the election meddling (classic siphoning votes technique) of 2016. Ol’ Tulsi, whether she is fully aware of it is Jill’s heir apparent in this role. Targeted ads on social media from sketchy sources (some of which were taken down by Facebook in their recent crackdown and purge) and heavy coverage on RT of her candidacy are pretty clear indicators of that status.
Now she comes right out and clumsily avoids voting for impeachment. I read her explanation. Lame. Amateurish. Dangerous.

Apologies due. I never believed it would happen. Now how do we rid ourselves of this disease for good?

No. I do not have my head in the sand. If your personal life enjoyment has increased since this guy stole the election with foreign help then you must revel in the constant assault on our attention by his cabal. Think (and shake that sand off) about what the daily news cycle was like prior to 2016 . . . I do not want to have to think about my political leadership constantly.
I care about my fellow man, not just myself. Look outside your bubble.

Wait for it, Akwhitty. t-rump is doing what Reagan did, he gave tax cuts to the rich and then pulled out the country’s credit card to improve the economy, which lead to the big recession right after he left that cost George Bush senior a second term. t-rump has increased the national debt by a trillion dollars. This kind of thing can’t be sustained. It’s funny how the Republicans always tout themselves as fiscal conservatives but it usually takes a Democrat to clean up their messes. Wait for it, Akwitty.

Akwhitty, let me guess: you deny the climate crisis as well? So glad your “net value and personal life enjoyment” rise, while the the rest of the planet is subjugated to environmental crisis, and the US speeds ahead in democratic decline and the continued dysfunction of a government.
This impeachment probably does very little other than add to the record those responsible for the downfall of a democracy and the implosion of the planet. THAT is what churns in the stomachs of about 50% of Americans who actually care about the greater good, rather than nonsensical domestic political bickering, of which we are all more than fatigued. YOU will shoulder the yoke down the road, as part of the problem rather than those of us who at at least make an attempt at solution.
If only you could see that this administration isn’t about anyone other than the perpetuation of a very, very small sliver of the population that, I would hazard a guess, doesn’t actually include you at all.

To my commenters
Your as easy to get riled up as when I scratch my dog by his butt. We found a mastodon tusk by our local river recently so I do not discount that there has and will always be climate change. I also birthed a child so I’m sure I’m also one of the problems with this world. I also work and use gasoline to perform my daily commute so that I can feed my child without the tit of another. Don’t be envious of other people’s position in like. Its 6 degrees now and I’m burning wood by the cord that I cut and split to stay warm. Electricity is not produced naturally only with the help of natural gas brought from the inlet due to 5hour days do we have lights . I also take tax courses in order to make the most of the wonderful tax breaks given by my President Donald Trump. Buy the way they last till 2025 unless the Congress changes them.
So enjoy your simple life and I will get back to my harsh, happy and ever consuming one.
I spent 26 years in PB, MB and finally OB.
I’ll visit this winter and spend My money in your community. Hope the ocean water Is not contaminated like last visit.
Over and out.

Whoa, glad I circled back here! Climate CHANGE, you say, coined by those who can’t see beyond their daily consumption? And you have an offspring- that’s your excuse for being part of the problem?! But its offset by the fact that you cut wood?!
And tax courses?!! Wow, I should take a page out of your book and immediately enroll in tax education so I can decipher the (lately) 300-page instruction booklet for the 1099 form to make sure I keep the most of my < 15K self-employment income and don't step on the toes of the 1%ers.
And you hope the water (I assume you mean salt water, though its a minor distinction, apparently) "is not contaminated like last time"? I suggest, wherever you are, stay there because YOUR president isn't doing bubkas about clean water (salt or fresh), and your natural gas, if its fracked, will soon contaminate your drinking water, and once you've finished chopping all that wood, you can burn (or eat) the dollar bills from your huge tax savings to keep warm and stay fed. Good luck out there.
