  1. I think it is innovative. This person/company sees an opportunity and is helping people think outside of the box to make some extra cash. Now (Jan 1 2020) that parking requirements have been greatly reduced/eliminated with the new Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) laws(SB13) this is an excellent way to utilize unused off-street parking spaces for people that may no longer have parking available at their residence. Respectfully, I don’t think it has anything to do with Vacation Rentals(VR) Mr. Blackwood.

SB13 – This bill would prohibit a local agency from requiring the replacement of parking spaces if a garage, carport, or covered parking is demolished to construct an accessory dwelling unit. The bill would also prohibit a local agency from imposing parking standards on an accessory dwelling unit that is located within a traversable distance of one-half mile of public transit, and would define the term “public transit” for those purposes.

  2. So if you rent out your driveway does the government come in and tax ya for it? Can a house renter or apartment renter rent their parking space(s)? Who’s responsible or liable for damage or theft of personal property placed on those “rental spaces”? Suppose there might be other business opportunities on top of this rental driveway idea, eh?

    1. Suppose you could offer, as an option of course, electrical and water hookups and perhaps a laundry concierge service (optional as well). Pizza guy delivers to your driveway, too!

    1. Mr. Blackwood,
I understand your point of view. But I still like the out of the box thinking. Just like the governor approving ADU bills to help solve the housing crisis. Now all single family zoned lots can have up to three units. If a person builds three units with no required parking it’s nice to know a tenant can potentially rent someone’s driveway to park. At the same time it’s nice to think about providing supplemental income to the owner of that driveway. I hope an article will be written soon about the impact of new ADU bills to OB…Frank?

    1. DB, I was not comparing the driveway to ADU. I was saying innovative ideas(ADU laws) allow opportunities for other innovative ideas(driveway for rent). If you sow no ADU parking requirements you reap people renting out their driveways.
