A third member of the San Diego Congressional delegation has come out and called for impeachment of Trump. Congressman Mike Levin, D-San Juan Capistrano, released a minute and half video on Friday, July 26, calling for the House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against the president.
Levin joins Congressmen Scott Peters and Juan Vargas, also Democrats who represent segments of the area, who have come out for impeachment. (Peters represents the 52nd District, which includes Ocean Beach, Point Loma and most of the City of San Diego.)
In his video, Levin cites Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s findings on ten instances where Trump obstructed justice. He “also criticized Trump’s encouragement of foreign interference with U.S. elections and “contempt” for Democratic norms and institutions, such as the president and his administration’s refusal to respond congressional requests for documents,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Levin said:
“In my seven months in office, I’ve kept my focus on the district and not on the distractions of Washington D.C.
But I cannot ignore the dysfunction, corruption, and abuse of democracy we witness everyday from President Trump … I must now support an impeachment inquiry in order to get to the truth for my constituents.”
“But it remains my responsibility to do what I can to protect the rule of law and and defend the Constitution. I take that responsibility very seriously, but I take just as seriously my responsibility to constituents.”
Congresswoman Susan Davis, (D-San Diego), is the only Democrat Representative from the area who hasn’t come out for impeachment. What’s up with that? She is in one of the “safest districts” in Southern California. Here is what we said at the top of the month:

Vargas and Peters – and now Levin – join nearly one hundred House Democrats who have come out in support of beginning an impeachment inquiry. One avenue is a vote in the full House for impeachment and that would take a simple majority – 218 of the total of 435 members.
CNN reported late last week that 96 of the 235 House Democrats have come out publicly; then there’s also Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, who dropped his membership in the Republican Party; and among the D’s there’s Rep. Katherine Clark of Massachusetts, vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus.

Complete and utter waste of time. Requires 2/3 vote from the senate to mean anything. Congressman have been calling for impeachment of every president for the past 25 years. It’s like a fun hobby they like to play instead of doing their job.
Gotta disagree with your facts there, kh. The only president that the House voted to impeach in the last 25 years was Bill Clinton in 1998. Only two others have been voted for impeachment, Andrew Jackson and Nixon. Clinton’s crime was lying about his relations with Lewinsky. Nixon’s crimes were so bad that he resigned, ending the process. There is no doubt that orange hair is a candidate for impeachment. Yes, there is not much of a chance the Senate will convict if the House impeaches him but you never know. If enough comes out, even the Republicans may turn on him. But not doing something because of an imagined failure just means he wins. No way. I vote for impeachment. Remember, t-rump has a yuge ego and people like that cut and run before “subjecting” themselves to being criticized. It is worth the effort.
It’s happened every time but Clinton was the only one that got the votes in the house. And what for? More partisan divide? It’s not about whether or not Trump wins or loses or making a point just for the sake of it. It’s about whether the citizens win or lose. The citizens would gain nothing from this effort. Spend that energy finding a winning candidate to replace him.
I just wish politicians would stop chasing these shiny objects and focus on the nuts and bolts instead.
Whoops, was about to say something when Geoff beat me to it. So, not seeming to be part of a pile on, I too must disagree. The impeachment process is a sacred cornerstone of the Constitution and is only actually used, as Geoff said, very infrequently. This is one of those times, when the American people and their representatives must stand up for our democracy and the Constitution and begin the impeachment process. It is true, as KH says, that other presidents have been subject to calls for impeachment but the nation never got close to the process when such calls were made against Reagan and when George Bush the junior had the country go to war based on a lie – wouldn’t you think that was an impeachable offense? But Nancy P stood in the doorway on that way too. But she’s changing her mind now on Trump – you can see it in her face.
It’s not an issue of politics; it’s an issue of constitutionality and integrity and working to save what’s left of our democracy. It’s Definitely Not a Waste of Time, mi amigo.
Does he deserve impeachment: YES! Due to the election timeline, I think defeating him for a 2nd term; should be the Priority!
If he were impeached; fascist Pence would rule: he’s a lot more scary then Trump!
