Here’s the notice Dirty Birds Bar & Grill has placed in their window at the corner of Santa Monica Ave and Cable Street in Ocean Beach (apologize for the blurriness – it was taken at night).
It’s a Public Notice of intent of Application To Sell Alcoholic Beverages, specifically for the “On-Sale Beer and Wine Eating Place”, as was foretold in an earlier post a week ago here. It appears to have been posted June 5, 2019. As we stated then, the interior looks very ready.
As many OBceans are aware, there’s been a saga in the Dirty Birds’ journey to open their bar and grill with their earlier, unsuccessful, effort to obtain an ABC license to have a full bar.
Dirty Birds put up their first Notice for a general license back in April 2018. The OB Planning Board gave them their approval back in early February upon a commitment by the establishment’s owners to stop alcohol saves at 10pm. But ultimately, the ABC denied them the license.
Now, this is their renewed attempt to be able to sell some kind of alcohol. The owners have stated publicly that they can’t run their eatery without alcohol sales to boost their revenue.
I have a great solution: buy an existing place with a license. Doesn’t the fish taco place at Newport and Abbot have a beer-only license? Get them to surrender it, or buy it, or whatever, then Dirty Birds would have my support. But we are beyond the limit now, and should not be going over further. Plenty of businesses go this route every year.
