On Saturday, Aug. 25, the Ocean Beach Town Council partied. It was their 50th anniversary – and the celebration rocked the patio of Newbreak Church.
Local bands played, pizzas from Pizza Port and SurfRider were the menu, draft beer from the OB Brewery was on tap – and raffle prizes were handed out.
President Marcus Turner got the ball rolling with welcomes and intros; past presidents Dave Martin and Gretchen Newsom were on hand, and Councilwoman Lorie Zapf joined the fun – and stayed quite a while.
The infamous Mike James gave an inspiring speech.
Happy Birthday was sung and a delicious birthday cake was carved up and dished out.
It was in 1968 that some locals felt there needed to be some kind of community group that would be able to do things, create resources for the community, lobby city hall.
Here are some random pics from the party (excuse the blurriness as the light was not great).

was dr jen campbell there? you know, the other candidate running in district 2 besides lorie.
I didn’t see her. Unfortunately Dave Martin and Gretchen Newsom took off early.
And tomorrow (Aug 28th) is the 50th anniversary of “The Whole World is Watching!”.
The whole world is definitely watching now.
Party like it’s 1968? Does that mean they snuck out to the jetty after dark, smoked some oregano/mex weed, got hassled by officer friendly at the wall, and stopped by the Inbetween to hear bad poetry?
Well, part of that at any rate. LOL
Who is the little woman right in front with the yellow leopard print shirt on? I don’t recall seeing her ever in OB. Party crasher?
