I got on one of his fish shapes at the Cliffs (Rockslide I think) in…the early 70s but it was too small for stand-up and way too hard to paddle without fins. They were ripping kneeboards but paddling them was horrible.
My first stand-up fish came into Seal’s Ding Repair shop in MB in 1977 or 78 as a trade-in for repairs on a couple other boards. It needed repair but it was just long enough for me to paddle decently. That board completely changed my surfing. I have a quiver picture with it sitting on top of Jame & Pam’s camper hood from back then.
And I’m still riding modified fish-shape twinfins 40 years later in ocean waves, river waves, and wake surfing (an ancient 1995 4’8″ Hyperlite HO Series shape). Can’t stand the trifins, just ride twinnie fishes!
San Diego was too a cutting edge surf & skate zone back then regardless what LA boys say!
