OB pizza portSan Diego Is Number 8 on TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Pizza Cities

OB’s own Pizza Port helped push San Diego onto the nation’s pizza map. According to a list just issued by TripAdvisor called the “Top 10 U.S. Pizza Cities”, San Diego came in number 8 due to three must-try pizzerias in the city – and Pizza Port on Cable Street was one of the three.

The other 2 from San Diego were BASIC Urban Kitchen + Bar in East Village, Buona Forchetta in South Park

The other top ten cities on the list released Wednesday, July 29, included:

Chicago as No. 1, followed by New York City as No. 2, New Haven, Conn. as No. 3 and the others were Orlando (No. 4); San Francisco (No. 5); Washington, D.C. (No. 6); Las Vegas (No. 7); Phoenix (No. 9); and Miami Beach, Fla. (No. 10).

TripAdvisor’s list is based on reviews and opinions from millions of TripAdvisor travelers. The rankings of the top cities for pizza are based “on the quality of pizza restaurant reviews, the quantity of pizza restaurants and their reviews, with more weight given to reviews from the past year, and the ratio of pizza restaurants and reviews compared to all restaurants for the city.”

No San Diego restaurant made the overall top U.S. pizza restaurants. The No. 1 spot restaurant on that list “went to Juliana’s Pizza in NYC, an eatery that specializes in thin-crust pies charred to perfection under a coal-fired hearth.” 7SanDiego

Pizza port has good beer, but conveyor belt pizza? Come on! Newport ale house is far superior.

I love you Pizza Port, but the pizza and wings there are garbage! I’m begging you to try and make a real slice or wing so I can stop in more often.

Umm, yaaaa, clearly whomever wrote the article has never been. The toppings barely get melted from the conveyer belt system. Beers great, pizza, no. I’d rather go hungry.

Well, I like the whole wheat crust pizza. I just wish they had delivery.

The Pizza at Pizza Port is awful. Even indigestible.

On the other side of the spectrum “Basic” it is an excellent pizza.

Never heard of the third one

I’ll pile onto the Newport bandwagon, Pizza Port is good mostly for beer…just had a stuffed pie from Lefty’s last night (and more for lunch) – now that’s list-worthy pizza.

I’ll take Surfrider’s pizza over Pizza Port and Newport Pizza any day.

Gezzz you guys – Pizza Port pizza is not as bad as y’all portray it. I’ve been satisfied everytime I go in there and order their specialty pizzas.

Last time I ordered a pizza from Pizza Port, it was so greasy that it made the crust soggy and it was soaked with grease. Three grown male adults couldn’t finish a large pizza because it was so gross.

I had a buddy who worked at Pizza Port that told me not eat their pizza. When i asked why, he said “Just trust me. don’t eat it.” I personally don’t like their pizza because when you pick up a slice of their pizza all the ingredients just slide off. As Chef Gordon Ramsey would say “it looks like Ghandi’s flip flop.”

Wow I’m surprised at the hate (for the actual pizza). I really have to think you guys are just posting that so you can re-read your post and pat yourself on the back. No it’s no the greatest pizza around. I would sort of compare it to the Round Table chain. But it’s decent enough. I DO think the original Solon Bech location is a bit better.
Quite honestly Pizzicato my favorite SD pizza.

If that’s what we gotta be known for (pizza) then there’s so much that the world is missing. There should be a stage in every neighborhood and entertainment provided by the fine local musicians we have here in this city, paid from the tourism advertising budget or something peripheral.

But for me it’s a moot point because I’m outta here in a week. Seattle’s getting a new (yet another) drummer it would seem.

All the best …. do continue to post on the rag and let us know how life is treating you and about Seattle

I think the slices are much better than the full pies at Pizza Port. Not sure why this is, but I’ll take a lunch special (slice and a salad with a beer for a couple bucks extra) any day.

Gee, I also thought the same thing about the slices at lunch…..it was better.
IMO, when you attempt to make a mildly spiced pizza for a family oriented customer you will fail to be great….

I like Poma’s pizza, myself.I can eat PP,though I do agree with the conveyor belt comment. If you order wings, ask them to put them through twice….good stuff.
