Sunset Cliffs Ladera aerial

Area of assault. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, Ladera Street.

A young man of high school age was beaten up and robbed of his car on Saturday night, Feb. 8th.  The unidentified 17 year old was sitting in his car near Sunset Cliffs on Ladera Street, when around 8 pm a group of people – all in their 20’s – walked up to the car and began assaulting him.

The group, reportedly made up of about 5 or 6 men and 2 women, came up to the teen’s location and without explanation, 2 of the guys got into the 1998 BMW and started rummaging through his private stuff. The teen began to drive off as he tried to push the men out, but instead they beat on him until he stopped the car.

Then the group pulled the victim from the vehicle and people began hitting and kicking him in the face and head.  The group then stole the car.   They didn’t go very far, as police who responded found the car about 150 feet away.

The young man was taken to the hospital with moderate facial injuries. Police are on the look-out for those who committed this assault and battery and theft.

Horrible. But can you at least fix that really bad typo in the headline?? Beated is NOT a word.

Stop feeding Tom and maybe he will go away.

This was more likely the weekend “let’s go to OB for a drunken sunset” crowd we see at the parking lot there, than “the bums”…
Any information on whether the 17 year old was even local?

OB Mercy – thanks for the heads-up, and to others who noticed the bad headline, we apologize. It’s what we get for not having the resources to have proofreaders – plus our program does not recognize misspellings in our headlines.

I happened to going into Winstons (from the Az) on Friday night, and I saw a policeman standing above a bloodied young male lying on the ground near the entrance of Winstons. I have no idea what happened. I mentioned it to the security at Winstons. I could tell that others were concerned as well.

I still don’t know what happened. Does the OB Rag have any insight on this incident?

@ John my friend said a pissed off patron got kicked out and then started a fight with the staff. I also heard the giant bouncer got hit and his lip cut badly, but the fighter then got arrested.

^ and if that doesn’t convince you we need to invest more in public education, I’m not sure what will folks.

Hope the kid is OK and they catch the guys responsible.

If we could bottle that wit, we’d be the next hit on Comedy Central.

I do question what the teen was doing after dark up at Ladera. Seems like a weird time/place to be so long after dark . Could have been kicking it enjoying the sound of the waves or listening music I guess. I wonder if he knew the kids or they knew him.

The incident at Ladera is NOT a homeless problem but there has been a spate of crime lately around OB. Gunpoint robberies , beatings etc.

We need to watch out for each other more now than ever
