OB Citizens-Patrol-logo-224x300The newly re-formed OB Citizens Watch is having their monthly meeting tonight, Monday, June 10th. It will be begin at 7pm at the OB Woman’s Club at 2160 Abbot Street.

One of the group’s sub-committees, Clean-Streets Initiative is sponsoring a beach cleanup and graffiti paint out starting at the OB Pier on Wednesday at noon.  They are asking locals and merchants to come out or send an employee to help for an hour or two.

The group is now meeting the second Monday of every month.  Originally, the group formed last October after a spate of violent sexual assaults against women occurred in Ocean Beach, and it did not appear that any community organization or city resource was adequately responding to the assaults.  The OB Woman’s Club offered a site for the first meeting and at least initially there was a large outpouring of support for the new organization.  A citizen’s patrol got up and running for a few weeks.   Some women attended courses on self-defense offered free for awhile.

Since then, interest waned until last month, the group reconvened and changed its name, instituting a multiple sub-committee structure.  Other sub-committees include:  Outreach,   Fundraising and  Legal.
