OB puppy cliffMost everyone by now in OB has heard about the little puppy that fell 80 feet off Sunset Cliffs earlier this month.  Well, the 3 month old Chihuahua mix is healing – has a new name of “Clifford” – get it? – and will be ready for a permanent adoption by humans very soon.

The Department of Animal Services is now accepting applications for his adoption – and their deadline is Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at the close of business.

Clifford, who fell off the cliffs near Ladera Street on January 11th, did not have a collar or any identification tags when he was rescued by lifeguards amidst the sand and rocks at the bottom of the cliffs. The Department of Animal Control has a special fund – the Spirit Fund – that helped pay for his veterinary care. He is expected to be healthy enough for adoption in a couple of weeks.

Department Director Dawn Danielson told the media:

“Clifford has made tremendous strides in his recovery from the fall and he will soon be ready for his new ‘forever” home.’

“There has been a tremendous interest in this little pup, but only one family can provide the pup with a forever home. We encourage anyone who is not selected to visit the other wonderful pets at the shelter that are hoping for a new home. They all have their own unique story.”

If you are interested in adopting Clifford, you can get a special adoption application on the department’s website at www.sddac.com under “Adoptions” and “Special Adoption Application.” The applications can be printed from the website and faxed to (619) 767-2706 or mailed to the Department of Animal Services at 5480 Gaines St., San Diego, CA 92110, with the words Attention: Clifford Adoption. The forms can also be delivered to any of the three County animal shelters.

Applications must be received by the close of business Saturday, Feb. 2. Staff will review them all and select the home they feel best meets the needs of the puppy. The adoption fee for Clifford is $69.
