An Ocean Beach woman has survived a shark attack … while she was vacationing in Puerto Rico. Lydia Strunk, an OBcian, was visiting the island when a shark attacked her, giving her a 10-inch wound on her right leg between her ankle and knee, severing 4 tendons and a nerve.
Here’s Nathan Max’s article from SignOnSanDiego:
A friend recently wrote a message on shark-attack survivor Lydia Strunk’s cast indicating that she is one in a million.
The odds of having an experience similar to hers, however, are actually a lot longer than that.
Strunk, a 27-year-old University of San Diego law student, has returned to town and is back in class after spending a week hospitalized in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Strunk suffered a 10-inch wound on her right leg between the knee and ankle, and she severed a nerve and four tendons.

wow, i knew OBceans were tasty morsels yet this is ridiculous. another fine reason to stay within the 7 sq miles of OB
Unless the sharks make there way to OB where they can have a buffet of tasty OBceans.
I wish Lydia all the best and a speedy recovery. I’m sort of familia w/those waters and although they’re safe for the most part they’re still part of Neptune’s kingdom. Give that OBcean a medal!
Any word on what Lydia was doing when the bite occurred?
