It’s that time of year again, time to honor a San Diego community tradition going to back to the age of grunge, bungy jumping and line-dancing: it’s time for the annual Paddle for Clean Water at the Ocean Beach Pier, celebrating its 20th anniversary on Sunday, September 18th from 9:00 am to 12 noon!

One of the San Diego Surfrider chapter’s most popular community events, the Paddle for Clean Water is an annual, non-competitive event designed to bring the San Diego community together in the name of clean water and a healthy environment, and to bring additional awareness to the pollution problem along San Diego’s stunning coastline.

As always, the Paddle for Clean Water is an entirely free community event, and all ocean and beach enthusiasts are encouraged to participate using any kind of human-powered paddlecraft. Registration gets underway at 9:00 on the morning of September 18th, followed by the kickoff of the paddle around the Ocean Beach Pier at 10:00.

Haley Jain Haggerstone, Chapter Coordinator of the Surfrider Foundation San Diego chapter, says “This year is all about Honoring the Past and Engaging the Future. We would like to give thanks to those who started this event, which brings San Diegans together in the name of clean water. We also want to pass this legacy on to future generations of coastal advocates in order to ensure our coasts are protected for years to come. Clean water is vital to maintaining healthy marine and coastal environments. This is really what Surfrider Foundation is all about, so go paddle around a pier, San Diego!”

We look forward to celebrating two decades of the Paddle for Clean Water with all of San Diego on Sunday, September 18th at the Ocean Beach Pier, from 9:00 am to 12 noon.
