big surf day 11-3-10 jg 06-sm

The surf rolled into town on Tuesday, election day, and stayed with us over the last couple of days. At 4 pm it hit and on Wednesday morning it was a solid 8′ at the pier, so reports Jim Grant – who took these amazing photos. The cliffs had some bigger sets….

Jjim reported:

The buoy that USED to sit off the Ocean Beach Pier started to wash ashore this evening (Wednesday) at 5:30 or so….San Diego Life Guards went out and drug it in so that surfers would not get tangled up in the long rope that was attached to a V8 motor which acted as the anchor to the buoy !!! Pretty damm funny…………..

Here is a gallery of Grant’s photos (click on the image for a larger picture):

Nice shots, as always! Decided I was gonna go in to work a little late yesterday and walked the pier to check out some of the waves around what was supposed to be high tide at 7:30…not the crusher waves we occasionally get, but good size nonetheless and a nice way to waste a little time…

To cool off, I jumped in the ocean yesterday – was not about to attempt to boogie board any of those waves, but they were smokin’! Sometimes you don’t get to see the beauty of the wave action unless you’re waist deep.

I have been surfing OB waves since I was 13 and I’ve never, ever been able to go into the water – or wanted to – in early November. Unusual weather, eh? More effects from Climate Change?

Great pictures. Wish I hadn’t loaned out my camera ’cause I would have liked to have taken my share of pictures too.
