Chris Bowd is improving but cannot communicate yet

We have seen the wonderful news about Chris Bowd from the comments left at a recent post on his condition – the news that he is breathing on his own, is very aware of his surroundings, plus it’s reported that he can move all his limbs. We’re told “he has been nodding and has even smiled.”  But he cannot speak yet.  Here’s the full quote from FMTR:

Chris is breathing on his own and will be released for rehabilitation on monday or tuesday. He is very aware of his surroundings and can move all limbs. He has been nodding and has even smiled. He is not able to speak yet but should be able to very soon once the endotracheal tube is removed.

Chris’ new condition was confirmed by local police.  Today (July 31) I spoke with Sgt John Berstline of the Western Division, San Diego Police Department, and he told me that Detective Patrick Hall has been aware of and up on Chris’ improvements and confirmed these improvements.  Hall is heading up the investigation into who injured Chris.

Sgt Berstline also told me Bowd cannot communicate and that they have learned nothing yet from Chris about what happened on July 4th.  Bowd had been knocked unconscious since the holiday and just recently awoke from a coma. Bowd cannot say, does not recall or cannot communicate anything about the events that left him with brain and facial injuries. Chris is not necessarily aware that a crime has occurred.

This must be good news for whoever did this to the OBcean. His injuries did not seem – at least from here on the sidelines – as being consistent with a fall or tumble from being drunk, etc.  Which implies that someone attacked him or beat him.

The police officer also said that they have spoken with people who saw Bowd that night, but have not spoken to anyone who was with him or saw him right after he was injured.  Police still do not know what happened during the incident.

Chris’ family, friends and all the people who have wished him well, some who don’t even know him, are genuinely gladened by this news from the hospital. Good things do happen in this world and this is one of them.  Get better Chris from all of us at the OB Rag blog.

While it would be nice to find out what just happened on the night of the 4th, I think the main thing that’s important is Chris making a full recovery and it sounds like he’s making great progress towards that goal.

Still praying for the best!

Chris was my next door neighbor until a few years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, no doubt. I must confess that I was completely unaware of this incident until last night, yet I keep up with local news un the U-T religiously. Maybe because I’ve been out of town for most of the month of July. Thank you Mr. Gormlie for keeping everyone abreast of his situation.

Chris comes into OBC pretty regularly. He has a great sense of humor and really loves to laugh. I just can’t wait to see and hear him laugh again. Keep working hard Chris.

I hope you are holding up well Mrs. Bowd. I have been meaning to call you again this week. Please let us know if there is any way we can help, or if he is up to having me as a steady visitor for awhile in rehabilitation. Just say the word, and I’ll be there.

For now, this blog and the many updates brought forth by OB Rag have been very helpful to us.

Brett and I are so grateful to Chris’ friends and others who have prayed for Chris, and held positive thoughts for him.

Chris is doing very good, yesterday he was very alert able to write in paper answers to questions this is significant improvement. Police is keeping in touch with family and progress on Dr. Bowd. I know everyone wants to know what happens but is unknown at this time. The family concern and most important thing now is that he is getting better day by day. He is getting full support from family and friends to make sure that his personal finances are up to date. His job; co-workers, colleagues and friends are patiently waiting for his full recovery. From work he is getting pictures of friends greeting cards to trigger his memory and lots of attention meals for his mom. If anyone wants to send greeting cards, photos etc… Please send to Po Box 92877 San Diego CA. 92192. We will make sure he receive and read it. Spread the word…

Chris, I hope you’ll soon have your laptop there and get a chance to read some of this blog.

I’ve been listening to the Budgie cd you sent me, and dreaming of our future marital bliss. Haha, a little inside humour there for ya.

Hofstad called Brett yesterday, and gave us an update.
Thanks again RickPiranha for your updates and that address.

I wish you well my friend.

Chris is now recuperating very rapidly, and now able to talk… Yeah.. He is been visited by all his closest friends and colleagues. He is soon going to next level of rehab. About himself he is definitely upset about the the trauma, and want to return to his home and life desperately. He just have to be patient until the rehabilitation program is over and physicians on his care release him. But this is great news for all of us. Thanks for keeping this alive keep checking for more progress. Frank once again thanks for your support hopefully soon you be able to speak to Chris personally. OB Rag rules spread the word.

I’m so happy to hear that Chris has regained consciousness, and is improving. I would have written something sooner, but I wasn’t sure how to do it! Very best wishes to Chris and Molly!

hey all. thanks for the great support. here’s some news… i’m physically/mentally 85-90% and out of the hospital system (as of today, after several weeks in ICU and a handful of surgeries). i am now searching diligently for an attempted murder/assault with intent to kill suspect. if you can provide any useful info on this topic, please contact Sgt John Berstline of the western division, san diego police department or detective Patrick Hall. thanks! chris-

Wow!!! News travels slowly. I am Chris`s childhood buddy from West Covina.
It is now March 2013, I decided to Google his name, and I couldn`t believe what
I was reading. Chris, if you read this, I just want to say that I hope you have
fully recovered. I hope the cops have gotten off the stick and found these guys.
We had some good times as kids. I hope you are well now, and able to have
more good times in life.

Your Old Buddy Rod.
