8:50pm Lawson-Remer takes early lead over Faulconer. According to San Diego County Registrar of Voters, 8:30pm election day. With 43.1% of the vote counted so far. Terra has 56.7% to Kevin’s 43.3%.

8:38pm From CNN: PT It’s 11:30 p.m. ET, and polls have closed in most of the US. Here are the latest updates on voting

Polls have closed in most of the United States while voting continues in some Western states, as tens of millions of American voters went to the polls Tuesday to choose the country’s next leaders.

Here’s the latest on the voting front:

Young voters’ signature issue in Nevada: In an emerging issue with ballot signatures, an official told CNN that many young voters do not know how to sign their name. More than 11,000 ballots need to be cured, which means signatures don’t match signatures on file, according to Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar. “What we’re finding is there’s a lot of younger people who have a signature issue because they live in a digital world, they haven’t used a real signature in real life,” Aguilar told CNN.

Hand-counting in a Pennsylvania County: Cambria County is conducting a hand count of ballots that could not be scanned at the precinct earlier today due to a software issue, Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt said, adding that process can “take some time.”

“Logjams” in North Carolina’s election data appearing online: There may be some “logjams” that cause brief delays in North Carolina election data appearing online, because so many counties will be sharing vast amounts of data around the same time, according to Patrick Gannon, spokesperson for the State Board of Elections.

Milwaukee swiftly recounts 30,000 absentee ballots: Milwaukee has counted more than 63,000 out of about 107,000 absentee ballots, officials announced just after 8:30 p.m. local time – making fast progress after an error in setting up tabulator machines required a recount of about 30,000 ballots.

Voting extensions in two Pennsylvania polling places: Two polling places near the West Chester locations evacuated due to a bomb threat will remain open until 10 p.m. ET to accommodate voters who are being redirected, according to Josh Maxwell, chair of the Chester County Board of Elections.

8:15pm Well, my grand experiment in live blogging fell victim to an almost 2 hour wait at my polling station – at one point I counted a 100 people in line, and there was a dinner break before that. So here we are.

4:45pm Trump projected to win West Virginia. The senate seat is also flipped to the GOP (no surprise there)

4:42pm — CNN: 15 Georgia polling places extend hours, 12 due to Russian-originated bomb threats, official says. A total of 12 voting locations will have their hours extended due to bomb threats, according to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, as well as three additional polling locations due to “normal causes.” Six polling locations in DeKalb County, five in Fulton County and one in Gwinnett County — which all encompass the Atlanta suburbs — will have their hours extended due to bomb threats, as well as two in Cobb County and one in Glynn County, according to Raffensperger. 4:21pm MSNBC: The publicly traded company that owns Truth Social took a hit on the stock market in the afternoon, with trading briefly halted for volatility. ….Trump Media & Technology Group Corp., which trades under Trump’s initials DJT, rose to a high of $40.74 this morning before taking a sharp turn around 2:40 p.m., dropping to a low of $31.45 before it was halted. After trading resumed, it rebounded to around $36 per share at closing. The drop in the stock on Election Day only underscores how much the stock is tied personally to Trump, which the company admitted in its most recent SEC filing.

4:19pm: From CNN: As polls close in Georgia, it’s worth looking at what drove voters there. The economy is, by far, the top issue among Georgia voters, per early exits, with about 40% listing it as their top issue. But interestingly, democracy ranks at No. 2 with roughly 28% and abortion at 14%. Immigration – Trump’s top issue – was ranked top issue by about 10% of voters in Georgia, per early exits.

4:11 pm First results or projections come in. Harris is projected to take Vermont and Trump is projected to take Kentucky and Indiana. WaPo

4:00 pm Tales from voting. Paul K sent this comment from a friend: “I’m poll watching at a big condo building in Center City. Three hours into the voting day: 270 voters; 25 more than who voted ALL DAY AT THE SAME LOCATION in 2020 turnout!!”

Paul also sent in what appears to be a facebook page comment: “My friend who lives in rural Maine just told me the line was out the door and it was nothing but young women!! She said she’s never seen a line in all the years she has lived there. Let’s gooooo!!!”

3:55pm Our friend and Rag columnist Terrie Best says, “I’ve been interested in the “tsunami” of women voters or signs of increased voter turnout being reported. I grabbed these Facebook posts from boots on the ground folks watching polls. I’ve also seen a campaign called “Pizza to the polls” organically organized and Michael Moore created a playlist you can listen to here: for people stuck in lines to vote. I hope they brought their book boxes! Please join or find public Facebook groups in swing states and write posts to encourage folks to stay in line!

3:45 pm We’re starting up the “live blog” for Election Day 2024 here at the OB Rag. This just means we’re do one continuous post or blog — right here — and go through the hours the polls close, both here and nationwide and offer a sampling of the results.

We’ve also arranged for a number of San Diego locals to chime in with comments, thoughts, observations, fears and hopes and I’ll repost them — here. Also, I’ll post any photos that people send in that are pertinent. One friend wanted us to post photos of pets wearing voting regalia. We sure will, if the idea picks up.
