Editordude: Here is Fox5 reporter Jaime Chambers’ report on the community workshop held by Midway Rising on October 22. Was it well-attended? You decide. (Chambers once told me that he was born in OB during a homebirth.)

The long-awaited Midway Rising project is in its full entitlement phase, designing out the nuances which will modernize the face of the sports arena area long beloved but starved for new investment for decades.
“Cities are living things and so now is the time to pivot to a new set of memories, a new set of opportunities,” said Jim Andersen, the Chief Development Officer at Chelsea Investment Corp.
The new 2,000 affordable housing units will be the most units of affordable housing ever created at one time in California.
“There will be a total of 4,250 units — 2,000 will be deed restricted for 50 years minimum,” said Andersen.
Renderings show one, two and three-bedroom apartments. One-bedroom affordable units are going for as little as $900 a month, while it goes up to $3,000 a month for a three-bedroom unit.
Some residents who live in the area have mixed emotions about eventual demolition of the sports arena, but say they also understand all things come to an end.
Andersen says first a new stadium will be built and then by 2026-2028 the full building plans will be finally launched.
“We’ll start a spade in the ground on market housing retail and some of the affordable housing as well,” said Andersen.

Why?! Why stuff a sports arena/ retail in a higher density plan? Have you ever seen Viejas impacted traffic after sports, concerts, graduation events in the neighborhood, let alone SDSU activities? Bloody braindead Toad cronies.
Just build the housing.
… just build truly affordable housing.
