OB’s Charging Stations

With all the talk about bike lanes versus charging stations, Rag reporter Geoff Page went down to Abbott Street to check out what the two city-owned charging stations in the parking lot of the main guard tower look like now.

Plus he wanted to see how the administration of Mayor Todd Gloria is  handling the new national push to increase charging stations all over California and the nation.

These photos say it all.

  1. Well yeah, what’d you expect? Gloria wants to eliminate cars, and make people walk throughout high density to mass transit. I’m surprised there wasn’t a photo op with him cuttin the cord.

  2. Thank you Frank for the photos and veining attention to this.
So sad. I used to charge at that station before the pandemic. Thankfully I have a hybrid because now I can’t charge anywhere in OB where I live.
I don’t even need a charging station, just an outlet my car’s short cord can reach. The same for most hybrids.
I think all apartment complexes should have electrical outlets available (I would be willing to pay). There are standard fluorescente lights under my covered parking. As there is already power it couldn’t be that hard to put in an outlet on the nearby support post.
I’d like to see the TV news stations adding to coverage on this.

    1. Hey Jenny, I’m all for apartment houses being required to furnish gasoline for the rest of us in our gasoline powered cars. That makes about as much sense as your proposal.

  3. Last night the planning board voted to include charging stations in all 3 of our public lots on this years CIP request list.
