What do weevils do when the palms are gone and why were they not contained in the first place?

I have always loved the Canary Island Palm Trees, which I believe Kate O. Sessions introduced or at least advocated to landscape around the County of San Diego. But after several years of witnessing dying or dead palm trees, I began to notice a very similar and very healthy palm tree that for a while I thought meant someone found a weevil-killing insecticide that spared those beauties! But no, the suspected “survivors” were actually Date Palms with slightly different fronds. Given these trees do not seem to be weevil food, I highly suggest this species be the new replacements on City of San Diego public lands. However, there is a fun alternative that has been presented on Foothill Boulevard in Pacific Beach and that is to hire a tiki sculptor to convert the palm tree stumps to fun and enjoyable tiki statues all around town!
