From Source:

Presented by the Hodad’s Foundation & AWOL Productions. We’re dedicated to honoring the Old School ways and keeping it local! This Surf Contest is for all the local rippers and families in our beloved Ocean Beach Community.

NEW IN 2024!

— DAY TWO: We’ve grown so much and have so many friends and local families that want to compete, that we’ve re-aligned the divisions and added a FINALS ROUND on Sunday. We’re making time to Do it Up & Do it All!

— FAMILY FESTIVAL: We’re taking over the Veteran’s Lawn on Saturday & The Pier Parking lot on Sunday for Vendors, Food & Live Music. We’re making this Community Event a whole weekend of FUN!

— SKATE SUNDAY: We’re setting up Ramps, a Half Pipe ramp, & a street course and doing the Skate Jam in the OB Pier Parking while the bands play on!

  1. Too bad it’s sloppy beachbreak junk surf again. At least today I see a few sets are maybe waist-high but crumbly. Like most surf contests, it’s not worth watching but as a community gathering it should be fun!

Since the OB Hotel cam no longer pans back and forth there’s no view of the Pier parking lot so no vendor crowd and skate jam area is visible. Somebody went up on the roof and tilted the cam up so only the top of one red tent is visible and the few families on the beach.

June gloom weather. Judi Curry wrote and that it’s been weird, cold and mostly gloomy down there all winter. But up here where it used to be snowing and/or raining this time of year my thermometer is 78’F again under a bright hot sun and light blue sky. That heat started in early March when most definitely I should have been out blowing snow to the gate. Instead I dusted off the ’78 Bahne skate and was rolling concrete in town. There is zero snowpack at my elevation, bad news for the aquifers underneath my feet, and almost nothing (compared to 20 years ago) on top of my boarding hill either which closed last week. The miserable snowline is very high on a few of the highest peaks. Been like that most of the winter.

And the wildfires in Canada have been burning for two months already, too, which is also not good news.

You all have fun at the scene today. Cherish the moments we have, ya know?
