Weekly Vigil for Ceasefire in Gaza in Ocean Beach — Next One: Sat. Feb.24

The San Diego Veterans For Peace and Code Pink are hosting a weekly demonstration demanding a ceasefire in the current fighting in Gaza …. every Saturday from Noon to 1 PM at the corner of Sunset Cliffs Blvd and West Point Loma Blvd in Ocean Beach

Like so many Americans, local members of Code Pink, the San Diego Veterans For Peace, and their supporters and friends, are shocked and disgusted by the senseless slaughter of so many innocents in Gaza, often with weapons provided by the United States.  This growing weekly demonstration attempts to educate the public that the killing of so many innocent people, regardless of the terrible October 7th invasion of Israel, is not warranted and does nothing to solve the many issues ongoing in the Middle East.

To obtain additional information or to obtain interviews, please contact Dave Patterson, president of the San Diego Veterans For Peace, who can be reached at 760-207-9139 or at Dpatterson998@yahoo.com

I notice there aren’t any signs demanding the release of hostages.

Being a supporter of truth and equality I’m also wondering why these folks are not holding signs condemning Iran for supplying weapons to Hamas that are used to till men, women and children in Israel?

And the call for an end to the killing, it would be simple if Hamas released the hostages and the fighters stop hiding and fighting from inside towns and cities that are occupied by Palestinian civilians.

But hey, it seems that the death of Palestinian civilians is simply the price that Hamas is willing to pay to remain in power.

Nearly 40,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza. Under 1,200 deaths in Israel. There’s some truth and equality for ya. If you’re condemning Iran for supplying weapons, you better be ready to condemn your own government for supplying even more weapons.

Proportional response to an invasion is a fool’s tactic. Should we have responded to Hitler or Tojo on a proportional basis?

Proportional response would only perpetuate the killing. Tit for tat forever.

And OK, I’m all for the US not supplying weapons to foreign friendly governments. But what are we going to do about Ukraine? Let the Russians take the country by force as we sit idly by?

None of these decisions are easy.

And BTW, I defend the rights of the protestors to peacefully express their beliefs. Go for it. I’ll honk and give a friendly wave as I drive by.
