The 2021 Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors election is here and members have begun voting. Voting began on Thursday and runs to Friday, February 5.

OBTC Directors are elected voices in communicating the views and needs of the community to the appropriate agencies, and are at the forefront of community discussions. When needed, Directors take appropriate action on community issues and are leaders in promoting the general betterment of Ocean Beach.

This year, there’s an unprecedented amount of interest – and there are 18 candidates for the 8 seats up for election on the 15 seat Board of Directors. OBTC members elect Board Directors for two-year terms. Half of the Board stands for election every year. This year, 8 seats are up for election.

Eligible candidates for the OBTC Board of Directors must be over (18) years of age, have Bronze Level OBTC Membership, and either live, work, own property, or operate a business in Ocean Beach (92107). Voting for this election will take place from Thursday, January 28th to Friday, February 5th, 2021 .

Thanks Frank! Additional reminder that today is the final day to vote. There are some truly outstanding candidates listed above. Having 18 people run for the 8 open seats has to be some kind of record. We have already seen in excess of 300 votes cast from local community members. The participation this year is really encouraging. I hope to see our friends at the OB Planning Board have as much interest and engagement in their upcoming elections as well.

Jon Carr – two questions: what time today, Feb. 5, is the deadline to vote? and is it a secret ballot where no one can view how a member voted?

Hi Frank,

Deadline is 11:59pm tonight, and yes, Voting is secured. The Russians will not be able to find out who voted and we do not anticipate anyone storming the Masonic center to contest.

Apparently planning crosswalks is far less appealing than serving pancakes.

It looks like we’ll have one on the board after the election which the ballot is already set for. If so, any resident, or business or property owner, can apply for the vacant seat. Info can be found on the website at http://oceanbeachplanning.org/elections/

The application must also attend at least one board meeting to qualify. (Normally signature gathering is required, but this has been temporarily suspended due to Covid.)

And if someone wants to dip their toes in something specific, we have subcommittees on Transportation, Project Review, Public Outreach, and vacation rentals. A community member can also just seek appointment as a voting member of a committee. Or just attend and make your voice heard. Subcommittees will be appointed at the April meeting, which is the first Wednesday at 6pm.
