It seems the saga of the old Nati’s building just keeps going.
Now we have learned the Pop Pie Co. has pulled out of putting in an eatery at the site. About two weeks ago, apparently, Pop Pie Co. owners Gan Suebsarakham and Steven Torres withdrew from the enterprise after having much of the former building demolished and making other improvements.
It was in January 2018 when news broke that the popular University Heights pie shop that specialized in “handcrafted savory and sweet pies” was moving into the former long-time Ocean Beach Mexican restaurant. But it’s not to be.
Speculation abounds. Did they bite off more they could chew? Did they get in over their heads? The other site is much smaller than what the new place offered.
An entire new work crew is on the site. And word on the street is they need carpenters.

One of these would be great in OB.

Looks good, but I hope it won’t be a chain restaurant.
We have many Mexican, several Japanese one Thai and two Vietnamese options in OB. Little chef is more fast food Chinese. How about a Convey style Chinese or Korean place? Mmmmm, I would go there a lot.
If you can get by with just chicken or lobster pot pie, Jensens’s (Talbot and Canon) has great ones.
what the heck are these guys thinking/doing?!? gutted and complete foundational structural rebuild…for a chicken pot pie shop?? Whoever takes it over will have a fantastic setup – seems like work is ongoing still.
The owner paid 5 million dollars for the lot, to much over head.
5 Milly is a lot of chicken-pot pies…man what did they think was going to happen?
That space is huge and nice now – hoping someone with good food/drank makes it a home
Crap….Take O.B. history for a really poor business decision. Won’t surprise me to see 3 story condos go in.
Bummer. This would have been a good place to go.
