The Dirty Birds Bar and Grill on the corner of Cable and Santa Monica looks ready. At least its interior and exterior do.

The doors have been closed and nothing seemed to be going on inside for months, while the restaurant owners dealt with the denial of their full-bar alcohol license.

Lower eating section.

But now, they’re moving ahead – and have applied for a beer and wine only license. The notice will be going up very soon, we’re told.

Yet – the inside – which is larger than this reporter anticipated – is divided into 2 sections, the lower westside is mainly filled with tables and benches, accented with TV screens, while the upper section includes the counter and built-in tables.

And it looks ready.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.
