The Project Review Committee of the OB Planning Board has 3 projects to review at their meeting Wednesday, April 17. The meeting begins at 6pm at the OB Recreation Center at 4726 Santa Monica Avenue. Two projects are on Pescadero Ave and one is on Santa Cruz Ave. The committee will also review proposed OB Dog Beach Walkway Improvements.
The PRC usually makes recommendations on projects it reviews for the full board, which meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
4630 Pescadero – New 2-Story Residential
This is a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) for the construction of a new detached 2-story residential house on the .16 acre lot with an existing residence.
4684 Santa Cruz – Granny Flat
A CDP for the construction of a 260 square-foot granny flat with deck on top of an existing garage and workshop.
4811 Pescadero – Demolition and Construction of 3 Units
A CDP for the demolition of the existing residence and detached garage and the construction of 3 units: one single unit and a duplex.
OB Dog Beach Walkway Improvements
The City is proposing improvements for the replacement of ADA ramps and a number of other small projects (see agenda).

The dog beach walkways look to be in perfect condition to me. Shouldn’t the cliff stairs be taken care of first? I think people in wheelchairs would appreciate sidewalk repairs much more, many are in very bad condition.
I agree ZZ, I don’t see anything wrong with the walkways and ramp there now. FIx the various beach stairs that need replacing with that money. I’m wondering what the impetus is for this too.

The OBTC used to have a separate fund for OB Dog Beach. That is how the “paw” on the concrete was funded along with the metal sculpture bulletin board, and they used to pay for sweeping and reimburse OB Dog Wash at time to replace the poop bags etc. OBTC has a good chunk of change in the bank, I wonder if they are helping to fund these or some of these improvements?
Anyone know? I could not find any minutes of meetings on their website or financial information http://obtowncouncil.org/ (Dog Beach is listed as one of their initiatives).
that’s awfully kind of them but why doesn’t the city just sweep it, it’s their job, and a liability
Debbie, just a clarification: the OBTC never gave Dog Beach Dog Wash money for the free poop bags at the beach that we provided for 22 years. And between 1998 and 1999, on behalf of the Town Council, the Dog Wash sold 600 tiles to honor the dogs who celebrated Dog Beach and to raise the money for Dog Beach improvements. The tiles, installed in Dec. 1999, surround the improved entrance to Dog Beach. The Dog Wash donated the drinking fountain (for people & dogs) at the entrance as part of the improvements. The City of San Diego installed the fountain and is responsible for its maintenance. We continue our monthly cleanups (every 2nd Saturday from 9 to 11 am), and volunteers do sweep the ADA ramp. The city’s beach maintenance staff use a blower against the sand drifts occasionally during the week.

Jane, sorry if I was mistaken. I was on board when Barbara Ayers was the co-chair of the Dog Beach committee and I recalled taking about bags and voting on a bag issue and dispensers etc. I guess I was confused if the Dog Wash was never given any money or grants for your efforts.
I no longer have notes or copies of board minutes but today I did some research and did find http://legacy.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/metro/20030726-9999_7m26dogart.html. It looks like OBTC purchased $3,500 worth of dog poop pick-up bags, 25 trash cans and re-tinted the three giant blue paw prints on the entry way back in 2003. I wish we/OBTC would have given the Dog Wash some reimbursement or grants to to the Dog Wash since you/your employees or volunteers generously restocked them. Who can remember there was a lot “stuff” and controversies back then :-)
