Speaking of seeds, I planted some radish seeds a few weeks ago, and every single one has sprouted into a 1-inch wide radish. Not a single bug or sign of disease on the leaves.
It is very rare to get 100% success on seeds like that planted in the ground without special preparation. I had to thin them out, and enjoyed the delicate slightly spicy taste of several raw baby radishes.
If you are interested in very cheap seeds, you can plant mustard, dill, and poppy seeds that are sold in the People’s bulk spices section. All of these plants require rich soil and frequent but light watering for the first couple weeks, and are low maintenance afterward.
The SoloBee houses look really cool. I had a million happy and 100% non-aggressive bees when I had rose apple ice plants in my yard. I still have some bees, but I feel bad I got rid of their favorite plant and their numbers dropped.
I did this because ice plants are non-native, and also they depleted the soil and was a lot of work to stop from spreading.
I might have to get an elevated planter and put those ice plants in it, and find a spot they can’t spread. They have them around the Vons midway parking lot, and there are tons of bees there if you look carefully, completely ignoring all the people around them.
