OB Planning Board to Appoint New Members, Change By-Laws and Elect New Leaders – Wed., Oct. 3

The Ocean Beach Planning Board meets this Wednesday, October 3 at the OB Rec Center.

With nary a development project before it, the Board still has a full agenda. Under the interim-chair leadership of Andrea Schlageter, the board will probably appoint at least two new members to the board, will address recommended changes to the board’s bylaws and will elect a new Executive Board.

The board has had a number of vacancies, and is able to appoint new members once they’ve completed the application process – which includes the collection of the signatures of 35 residents or business owners within the district they plan to represent. (Collecting signatures may be omitted as a requirement if that bylaw is changed.) Ever since the OB Rag declared “an emergency” of the Board in early August and made a call for OBceans to get involved, at least four people have publicly declared they are running to be appointed. Others are contemplating it. (One can apply to be appointed to a district different than the one where the residence is located if the 2 seats for that district are already filled.)

Then there are the recommended changes to the bylaws – that will certainly be a full discussion (see below).

And finally, due to vacancies, the board must elect a new Executive Committee, the chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.
