San Diego’s cannabis business tax brought in $358,348 in the first month of legalized recreational marijuana sales, according to early figures released to KPBS on Monday, March 12.
Local marijuana businesses are required to pay the 5 percent gross receipts tax every month, and the first due date to pay the tax was Feb. 28. A city spokeswoman said the figure was for retail transactions in the month of January.
San Diego voters passed the cannabis business tax, titled Measure N, in November 2016 just as California voters approved Proposition 64 to legalize recreational marijuana. The local tax also applies to recreational cannabis cultivation, manufacturing and distribution, but not to any medical marijuana activity. KPBS

I am so happy that progressive California has done the right thing with cannabis. We should not forget though that thousands of good Americans are still rotting away in our slave labor camps because they were involved with the herb. Cannabis is the sacrament of progressive America, and that’s why there are some who will force their warped values on the rest of us. The next time you beautiful Californians light up, please think about those who have paid and are paying the highest price for same.
That’s really disappointing.
They were promising to make over $1M in that timeframe. What went wrong?
Hopefully the shopkeepers are more diligent in paying their fair share or we are soon going to be seeing these closed down once again.
