Man Injured in Fall Off Sunset Cliffs Friday Morning

The inevitable has happened … again.

Another fall off the bluffs at Sunset Cliffs – this Friday morning, around 3 a.m. Down near Ladera Street – where the stairs were recently closed – due to unstable cliffs.

Luckily the 30-year old guy – unidentified – survived after he fell roughly 50 feet down the bluff – just northwest of Sunset Cliffs Natural Park.

He was still conscious on a sandy beach when emergency rescue crews reached him, and he was airlifted to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest with injuries of unknown severity. San Diego Union-Tribune

This recent incident just adds to the long list of injuries and deaths of unwary humans. The OB Rag has conducted a study – based on news accounts – and has determined there’s been at least 5 deaths and major injuries every year from 2005 through 2017 from incidents at the cliffs or in the waters off the cliffs.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.
