Having lived in O.B. for almost 40 years I’ve watched the progression of dining options increase in quantity and finally quality.

I must confess to being a food snob, driven by my love of cooking and eating, and I have high standards for eating establishments. I want good quality food and a mellow environment, it is hard to get both. O.B. is getting much better on the diversity of food choices but mellow is hard to find near any beach community catering to a younger population.

With that said, I recently carried out from O.B. Kabob – a newly opened restaurant tucked in the corner on Bacon Street next to Winstons.

I was pleasantly surprised, the owners were kind and friendly, more than willing to explain menu items and just chat. I ordered the falafel salad, which consisted of 4 freshly made falafels on a bed of cucumber, parsley, tomato and garbanzo beans.

The kitchen is open, so you can watch prep, and see the salad selections. We also ordered the chicken shwarma platter, tender chicken sliced off the skewer, hummus and babaganosh on the side. Both came with warm pita.

Of course we also bought a few of the several choices of baklava. Everything was tasty, spicy and delicious. They also have inexpensive specials during the day. When you stop in, admire the creative back wall mural of the camel surfing. These folks have worked in OB a long time and deserve our patronage

Although they have decent food it would have really been great to have an option for some Gyro meat, they totally lack this dtaple of most Kabob places the world over.
