Huckabee: “… amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards ….”

On the eve of the Michigan Republican primary, held Tuesday, January 15th, candidate Mike Huckabee finally showed his true colors. He called to amend the Constitution so that it would have “God’s standards”.

Here’s what he said:

“[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that’s what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards.”

Huckabee made this statement before nearly 500 supporters, referring to his vision for a constitutional human life amendment and an amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

Often, Huckabee has referred to the need to amend the constitution on these grounds, but never before has he so specifically called for the Constitution to be brought within “God’s standards.” Just exactly what were these standards, we’re not sure, as they are themselves debated amongst religious scholars. At the end of his statement, he asked his supporters to “pray and then work hard, and in that order,” to help him secure a victory in Tuesday’s GOP primary. Apparently, God was not particularly pleased, as Huckabee came in a distant third in the Michigan primary.

The whole born again Bush government has brought this idea to the forefront. A president who claims he talks with a God is one thing, one who claims a God tells him how to govern is a scary situation. Religion is one thing, combine it with government on a equal power scale and we can kiss all rights goodbye.

Be aware that many powerful Christians are doing everything possible to make this country a theocracy. This is the closest they have ever come.

Another religious evangelical nutjob in the White House who wants to undo our Constitution and dictate and enforce his own religious beliefs on all American citizens of every religion. Sound familiar? Look where the last moron who practices a 2000 year old myth has taken us. Our founding fathers experienced religious persecution first-hand. They knew and understood why religion and a government that represents ALL the people cannot force religious beliefs on a democratic society of mulitiple and differing cultures, teachings, beliefs and traditions. Someone would always be left out. Someone would always be oppressed. Someone would always fight for their right to worship as they choose to. And somone would be persecuted for believing differently than their neighbors. It would be a recipt for another Crusade! Correct that, the fundy’s are already on a crusade to enforce their beliefs on us. This guy is a pandering idiot trying to get elected, and the religious nutjobs of our society are his dupes and enablers. There is nothing Christian about exploiting religion for personal ambition. That’s precisely what Mr. Huckabee is attempting to do, and he should be outed as many ways and times as it takes to stop this American Taliban.

J. Stone – well said.
Huckabee is Huckawannabe to run the first theocracy of America. He is dangerous. However, when he made this statement, he just destroyed his chance to be prez. Watch my words. Read my (cyber) lips. He has just self-destructed. Sorry, pal – your time is over.
